About the role

DESRI is seeking a Strategic Development Analyst or Associate to support the company's development team by providing market intelligence, strategic insights, and analytical support across renewable energy markets. This role sits at the intersection of project development and market strategy, helping to identify attractive opportunities, inform development decisions, and guide long-term portfolio growth.

What you'll do

The ideal candidate will combine strong analytical capabilities with an understanding of power markets, policy, and renewable energy development dynamics.

  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis across U.S. power markets to identify development opportunities
  • Evaluate new markets, including transmission constraints, interconnection queues, policy environments, and pricing dynamics
  • Support power marketing strategy and lead RFP process with potential for potential offtake
  • Support site selection strategy by analyzing land, transmission access, and market fundamentals
  • Track and interpret regulatory and policy developments affecting renewable energy development
  • Build and maintain market models, including supply-demand outlooks and pricing forecasts
  • Collaborate with development, origination, and finance teams to support project pipeline decisions
  • Prepare internal presentations and investment memos summarizing key market insights
  • Monitor competitor activity and project pipelines to inform strategic positioning
  • Assist in diligence efforts for greenfield and M&A opportunities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in economics, finance, engineering, or a related field
  • 1-5 years of experience in energy markets, renewable development, consulting, or a related field (Analyst or Associate level depending on experience)
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including experience working with large datasets
  • Familiarity with U.S. power markets (e.g., PJM, CAISO, WECC, MISO, SPP)
  • Understanding of renewable energy project development processes
  • Proficiency in Excel; experience with Python, SQL, or GIS tools is a plus
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex ideas clearly
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • The expected annual base salary for this position is $80,000 - $125,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, paid time off, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
