Responsibilities

SCOPE OF POSITION

TheInvestment Operationsteam is responsiblefor supporting the investment groups in transacting inmultiple products and operating across variousglobal markets and jurisdictions. The team operates and manages investmentmiddle office functions critical to the life cycle events of various investment productsresident in the portfolio.

The Analystwithinthe DerivativeOperationsteamplays a key rolein middle office workflows includinganalyzing derivative product requirements across various markets,on-boarding and managing counterparties, vendors and new products as well as life cycle events as it relates toOTC and Listed derivativeinvestments. Product life cycle events includetrade capture and validation,contract settlements, income entitlement, credit events, valuation practices and fee and margin calculation requirements. Product types include exchange traded derivatives, OTC derivatives,FXcontracts, andcleared swaps.

RESPONSIBILITIES

TheAnalystwill be assigned a combination of the below activitiesas required:

  • Responsible for the book of record for derivative investment transactions to ensure trade settlement, cash entitlements and forecasting, asset exposure reporting, performance measurement, reconciliations and general ledger purposes are complete and accurate.

  • Accountable for accurate and timely confirmation and settlement of derivatives investment transactions by identifying and resolving discrepancies withthetraders and brokers.

  • Review daily verifications between book of record and trading system for positions and transactions. Analyze and resolve all issues on a timely basis. Assist other employees in Financial Services in the research and explanation of external party reconciliation discrepancies.

  • Complete all portfolio and market opening requests including external party on-boarding requirements.Overseeall the ongoing market maintenance requirements for the products invested in.

  • Manage applicable trade activity to ensure adherence to regulatory requirementsas stipulated by the ISDA/CSA agreements.

  • Performa variety ofcontrol checks between OMERS and counterparty recordsas it relates to holdings, transactions and valuationsfor the OTC, CCP and ETDderivatives. Co-ordinatevariation and initial margin movementsand ensure timely and accurate settlement.

  • Preparemanagement reportson subject matters relating toderivativeinvestments including assets, income, cash flows, transaction costs and compliancemonitoring.Highlight and explain any outliers and provideexplanationsas needed.

  • Identify, recommend and assist in implementing processes/controls/productivity improvements including automation of current processes. Responsible fordevelopingdocumentation to support changes proposed.

  • Maintain up to date knowledge ofOMERS policies regardingsub delegation of investment authority, signing authorities,valuationsandthird party agreements (ISDA/CSA, Clearing Broker, Trading Agreements and Fund Agreements) andapply to daily activities to ensure compliance.

  • Enhance and update existing desk documentation of policy and procedures as it relates to areasof responsibility. Assist in developing new documentation as required.

  • Maintain strongunderstanding of investment products and customer needs in order to respond quickly and accurately to questions and problems that arise.

  • Provide inputs and information associated for audits and ensure completeness and accuracy.

  • Fostereffective workingrelationships inclusive of the other teams withinCMF, theinvestment division,OMERSinvestmententities,counterparties,swap providers, custodianandauditors as appropriate.

  • Participate in special projects as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degreein finance or other applicable discipline.Working towards a professional designationincluding CFA, CGA and CMA. Relevant industry courses will be an asset.

  • Minimum3yearsofexperience ininvestmentoperations withcomprehensive operational knowledge of derivatives instruments and hedge funds.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential to deal with all levelswithin the organizationandexternalcontacts. Ability to build strong relationships with both internal and externalstakeholders.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities to meet deadlines.Needs to be flexible.

  • Detail oriented and demonstrated aptitude forquantitative and qualitativeanalysis and problem solving.

  • Exposure toinvestment accounting, reportingand auditcontrolpractices.

  • Proficient in Excel and Word. Investment accounting systems experienceisrequired. Exposure to Charles River Development (CRD)and Bloomberg would be an asset.

  • Self-starter able to work independently with minimal supervision. Keen to learn and continuously improve processes and reports.

The expected salary range for this position is $72,000.00 - $108,000.00 per year.
