Financial Reporting Operations within VP Finance is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Analyst, Asset Management, Financial Reporting.

This position reports to the Manager, Asset Management, Financial Reporting. The Analyst, Asset Management will perform professional, complex accounting work in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and reporting requirements, requiring advanced knowledge of complex accounting principles related to Public Sector Accounting Standards. Prepare financial information, forecasts, reports and analysis to meet the needs of Faculties and Departments, as directed by the financial reporting group.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
  • Prepare Asset Management reconciliations.
  • Compile and perform accurate, timely and meaningful analysis for various ad hoc financial reports.
  • Prepare annual Asset Management reports for year end reporting and to various budget units to support their end of year reporting
  • Analyze capital costs and forecasts for accuracy, investigate suspect data and make adjustments
  • Assist in performing daily, weekly, and monthly routine Asset Management processes and procedures.
  • Review Asset Management transactions.
  • Identify, investigate and resolve Asset Management transaction issues/errors.
  • Develop working relationships with budget units to gain understanding of unit level processes, issues and variances from budget or expected results
  • Proactively communicate with business units regarding capital costs and processes
  • Resolve ad hoc issues and analysis, including situations were provided with limited identification of issues.
  • Research issues, ensure completeness of issues, involve multiple interested parties in the issue, make recommendations to solve the issue, develop procedures, practices, and software applications to implement the solution and test the results.
  • Balance conflicting needs of many stakeholders in recommendations
  • Perform business analysis and detailed specifications so that new financial tools can be used to analyze, display, and report financial data from multiple sources including complex spreadsheet reports
  • Develop expertise in various software applications to assist in the preparation of financial reports and analysis
  • Contribute to analyzing and re-engineering business processes and policies to streamline and systemize reporting requirements and accounting issues

Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Recent graduate or near completion of a Professional accounting designation (CPA) with a related university degree in business, finance or a relate field
  • Required to have an expertise in highly complex and technical financial concepts
  • Work experience in various accounting and analyst functions (+3 years)
  • Required to have an expertise in the usage of ERP systems and processes
  • Required to work with complex accounting, budgeting, forecasting and data warehousing systems and processes
  • Required to have a high attention to detail and meticulous documentation standards
  • An understanding of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAB) would be an asset
  • Working knowledge of computer software applications, including Excel, PeopleSoft query and PowerBI including data warehousing and business intelligence tool would be an asset
  • Previous experience in auditing and/or a public practice accounting firm would be an asset
  • A working knowledge of CaseWare would be an asset
