DescriptionUSRM Small Commercial Risk Analytics is seeking a highly motivated individual to support a variety of challenging analytics projects that will help shape strategy for the Small Commercial Specialty Lines, specifically Farm & Inland Marine, as well as broader high-value initiatives that span all Small Commercial lines. This role contributes to high-impact analytical work that informs product strategy, growth initiatives, and profitability management across Small Commercial.
The team performs diagnostic, forecasting, and prescriptive analytics and translates insights into actionable recommendations that directly influence business decisions. In this role, you will partner closely with stakeholders across Product, Actuarial, Underwriting, Modeling, State Management, and other cross-functional teams to develop strategic business targets, assess progress against those targets, and identify opportunities to improve growth, profitability, and execution. This is a highly visible role that provides analytical leadership and strategic direction in support of profitable growth and continued development of our Small Commercial portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Drive profitable growth in our Small Commercial Specialty Lines and our broader Small Commercial portfolio by delivering actionable insights and influencing decisions across partner teams.
- Develop both deep line-of-business expertise and broader Small Commercial knowledge; proactively identify opportunities, lead analyses, and recommend strategies. Build trust and credibility to accelerate decision-making and execution.
- Mine and analyze large, complex datasets using advanced analytical techniques to generate insights that inform business decisions.
- Collaborate extensively with stakeholders to shape, enhance, and execute growth and profitability strategies; clearly communicate opportunities and risks; align cross-functionally on solutions and support implementation.
- Monitor industry trends, competitive dynamics, and internal performance to continuously improve portfolio results.
- Translate quantitative findings into clear narratives and visuals for non-technical audiences.
- Present research, findings, recommendations, and business impact to senior leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a quantitatively oriented field (economics, math, statistics, operations research, actuarial sciences, etc.).
- Advanced proficiency in Excel (VBA, macros, formulas, data visualization, etc.), PowerPoint, and coding/querying skills, with SQL experience preferred. Advanced knowledge of data sources, tools, statistical principles and methodologies, and techniques.
- Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and research abilities balanced with strong business acumen and strategic thinking.
- Knowledge of underwriting, claims, insurance finance/actuarial concepts, regulatory environment, product development, and industry trends.
- Ability to identify themes and trends from large data sets and to synthesize analysis into stories for an executive audience.
- Experience with actuarial concepts (on-leveling, frequency/severity, development) preferred.
