This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

Join Blue Origin's Additive Manufacturing team as we scale metal 3D printing from cutting-edge development to full-scale production. As an M&P Engineer, you'll push the boundaries of LPBF technology while delivering quality spaceflight hardware. Working alongside experts within our Operations team —including Supply Chain, Test, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance—you'll help to develop the materials, processes, and parts that enable our mission of millions of people living and working in space to benefit Earth.

Responsibilities:
  • Leverage industry-leading advancements in software and machine architectures to improve the production of AM parts.
  • Develop AM processes, parameters, and requirements for existing and novel metallic materials.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to create, improve and validate bleeding edge process parameters that meet application needs.
  • Conduct root cause investigation of production issues with powder and printed materials and work with our team and outside vendors to address issues.
  • Optimize and production harden AM processes to increase throughput, decrease variability, and reduce production costs.
  • Leverage emerging AI tools to accelerate process improvements, enhance failure analysis, and identify automation opportunities.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or higher in material science/engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience with metal Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) processes
  • Experience with Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) printing materials such as stainless steel, copper, nickel and titanium alloys.
  • Proven experience developing and executing test plans for analysis and qualification of components or materials for AM processes while concisely reporting the results.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture.
Desired:
  • Experience with LPBF systems such as SLM, EOS or Additive Industries.
  • Experience with qualification in aerospace/defense or related environment.
  • Knowledge of applicability of characterization methods such as SEM, EDS, EBSD, PSD measurements, XRF, ICP, and OES.
  • Experience with in-situ monitoring tools used to detect and correct print defects.
  • Experience with materials simulation software.
  • Direct ownership mindset.

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $121,023.00 - $169,432.20
