Position PurposeReporting to the Supervisor Lines, this position is responsible for performing electrical and civil inspection services to ensure compliance with Alectra specifications, standards, policies, and design. The incumbent is also responsible for the coordination and direction of projects with external utilities, contractors, and internal departments to ensure project construction complies with specifications, standards, policies and design procedures. Perform additional Senior duties as outlined below.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities- Perform all duties as described in the Inspector job description.
- Attend site meetings (pre-construction) and hold work permits on job site when required.
- Access energized transformers, switchgears and obtain hold-offs when required.
- Performing and documenting contractor safety audits.
- Inspecting, managing and documenting the performance of contractors while installing maintaining or working near the distribution plant.
- Responsible for a working knowledge and understanding of and make all efforts reasonable to work in accordance with and ensuring work is done in compliance with the appropriate safety legislation, EUSR rules, Alectra policies and procedures and safe work practices that apply to the work while adhering to the internal responsibility system. Reports any unsafe conditions or observed unsafe work practices using Alectra procedures.
- The incumbent may be asked to perform other related duties which may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and CompetenciesEducation & Specialized Knowledge- Successful completion of Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent.
- Journeyperson Powerline Technician certificate or Journeyman Underground Power Cable Technician or equivalent.
- Certified in the Utility Safety Rules and Utility Work Protection Code.
- Requires working knowledge of the OHSA, O.Reg. 22/04, Alectra Construction Verification Program, and other safety-related regulations.
- Electrical knowledge.
- Strong understanding of ESA rules and regulations as applicable to the construction and maintenance of electrical distribution systems.
Experience- Minimum five (5) years related experience.
- Three (3) years Journeyman experience preferred.
Skills/Abilities/Competencies- Proficient computer skills.
- Must hold and maintain a valid class G driver's license.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics and civil drawings.
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills with co-workers and members of the public to achieve positive outcomes for the company.
Working Conditions- Work involves considerable levels of unpleasant conditions or hazards, resulting in moderate discomfort or risk of danger - work is performed predominately outdoors.
