Full Job Description
The AIML Privacy and Regulatory Compliance (PaRC) team leads privacy and regulatory compliance across AIML, partnering closely with Privacy Engineering, Privacy Legal, Competition Legal, Government Affairs, and various regulatory groups. This team shapes the direction of software features, models, and platforms across the company - balancing the tradeoffs involved in building successful products that meet Apple's high customer expectations for both quality and privacy. PaRC leads readiness efforts across AIML to meet new regulatory and compliance requirements, while integrating those requirements into infrastructure and processes to ensure ongoing compliance. The team also builds and champions the tools, monitoring programs, and practices that strengthen AIML's overall privacy narrative.

The PaRC team is looking for a Privacy & Data Governance Engineering Lead with deep knowledge of privacy techniques and requirements, data strategy and logging considerations, data governance requirements, and a genuine curiosity for technology.

Description

In this role, you will collaborate with engineering, data science, legal, and privacy teams across Apple to lead AIML's privacy and data governance efforts. You will drive the development of data mappings, logs analysis, and data flow diagrams that serve as the foundation of AIML's data strategy, usage and governance efforts. You will serve as the authoritative source for data governance, with a deep understanding of what data AIML products and services store on device, what data is sent to Apple servers by them, how data is used, how data access is managed, and for how long data is retained. As a subject matter expert in AIML's privacy and data practices, you will work closely with the Privacy Engineering team while providing privacy pre-consultations and pushing privacy-enhancing designs forward in early development work. You will also work closely with the Compliance & Policies team to create and / or update data usage policies and guidelines, including codifying AIML data practices - collection, usage, governance, and retention - into internal policies, helping ensure new features meet requirements from day one, and in advocating for new policies and guidelines as new engineering designs require privacy considerations.

This role is well suited for a detail-oriented privacy expert with a knack for data mapping, logging and strategy. It requires strong communication skills. You will need to thrive in collaborative environments, move seamlessly between the details and the big picture, and be comfortable working with a broad range of cross-functional partners at every level.

Minimum Qualifications

15+ years of experience in privacy, logging, and/or data governance.

Proven ability to perform technical privacy analysis and reviews, and to push privacy efforts cross-functionally.

Strong understanding of privacy, data governance, and AI regulations, including CCPA, GDPR, DMA, and the EU AI Act.

Experience developing and driving data logging and usage strategies, providing privacy guidance, and performing risk assessments.

B.S. degree or higher in Engineering, Privacy, Policy, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Exceptional written and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate clearly to both engineers and lawyers, up to and including Senior Vice Presidents.

Experience in privacy, data governance, logging, or machine learning, with a track record of bridging technical and legal perspectives.

Demonstrated ability to ramp up quickly on new technologies and navigate a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively across functions, levels, and disciplines.

Proven track record of managing ambiguity and complexity while pushing for strong privacy-centric designs.
