About the job you're considering

The AI-First Junior Engineer is an early-career software engineer who develops, tests, modernizes, and supports software systems in an AI-augmented delivery environment. This role leverages AI tools as a default assistant while building strong foundations in software design, quality, security, and production discipline.

Operating within a human-on-the-loop model, the engineer learns to apply sound judgment, identify risks, and escalate appropriately-ensuring AI accelerates productivity without compromising accountability.

Your Role

AI-Augmented Engineering Execution
  • Use AI tools to assist with coding, refactoring, unit testing, and documentation
  • Follow approved AI usage standards, policies, and guardrails
  • Learn when to accept AI recommendations and when to seek review from senior engineers


Software Development & Modernization
  • Implement well-defined features and enhancements under guidance
  • Assist in modernizing existing applications through refactoring and API updates
  • Ensure all changes meet quality, security, and compliance standards


Production Support & Learning
  • Participate in structured production support rotations
  • Use AI-assisted diagnostics to investigate and analyze incidents
  • Apply fixes (reviewed by senior engineers) to reduce recurring issues


Quality, Security & Engineering Discipline
  • Adhere to coding standards and AI-assisted quality gates within CI/CD pipelines
  • Participate in peer code reviews and release readiness activities
  • Ensure traceability and observability requirements are met


Collaboration & Skill Development
  • Work collaboratively within an AI-enabled POD
  • Partner with Senior and Lead Engineers
  • Build skills in AI-augmented workflows, systems thinking, and analytical problem-solving


Required Qualifications
  • 1-3 years of software engineering experience (including internships or co-op experience)
  • Knowledge of at least one modern programming language
  • Familiarity with Git-based version control and CI/CD concepts
  • Strong interest in AI, automation, and modern engineering practices

The AI-First Junior Engineer builds foundational engineering and analytical capabilities while responsibly leveraging AI to deliver high-quality software. This role provides exposure to how modern systems are designed, built, and operated at scale in a collaborative, AI-enabled environment. #LI-SS1

The base compensation range for this role in the posted location is $68,911 to $161,544

Capgemini provides compensation range information in accordance with applicable national, state, provincial, and local pay transparency laws. The base compensation range listed for this position reflects the minimum and maximum target compensation Capgemini, in good faith, believes it may pay for the role at the time of this posting. This range may be subject to change as permitted by law.
