Advanced Provider Director

Position Summary

Just like our patient experience is paramount to our success, it is equally critical that the key ambassadors of the AFC care model, our Advanced Provider Directors, know how deeply invested the organization is in their growth and fulfillment. This is where our Advanced Provider Directors play a pivotal role in that vision. The Advanced Provider Director is an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant who blends direct patient care with clinical leadership, mentorship, and operational strategy. Reporting directly to the VP of Provider Services while operating in a regional dyad partnership (shared accountability between clinical and operational leadership), this role is instrumental in championing our Mission, Vision, and Values. Together, they execute organizational performance across key clinical, medical, and operational verticals.

  • Performance & Analytics: Drive organizational success, strategic planning, and operational efficiency through clinical and operational data analytics.
  • Provider Success: Lead provider coaching, mentorship, and engagement, while ensuring alignment with provider compensation models.

Hybrid Performance Expectation

In this unique role, your time will be split between providing direct patient care and helping your peer caregivers to develop their own capabilities to the next level.
  • 60% Clinical Time: Dedicated to independent, high-quality direct patient care.
  • 40% Leadership & Admin Time: Dedicated to provider support, onboarding, mentoring, schedule reviews, and coverage planning.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat urgent, non-emergent medical conditions for patients of all ages.
  • Perform standard urgent care procedures (wound care, laceration repair, I&D, splinting).
  • Order/interpret diagnostic tests (labs, x-rays, EKGs) and manage emergent stabilization/transfers when necessary.
  • Maintain timely, compliant medical documentation and discharge education.

Clinical Leadership & Mentorship
  • Serve as a clinical resource, role model, and peer mentor for market APPs.
  • Lead new provider onboarding, training, and workflow integration.
  • Reinforce organizational standards for documentation, clinical quality, and professionalism.
  • Identify clinical or performance gaps and escalate concerns appropriately.

Operational Partnership & Quality
  • Collaborate with Regional Operations, and Workforce Management to optimize staffing, schedule reviews, and call-out escalations.
  • Help standardize care delivery and eliminate barriers to clinic flow and patient experience.
  • Maintain a competitive performance scorecard and support quality assurance/chart review initiatives.

Position Requirements

Critical Qualifications
  • Licensure: Unrestricted, active NP or PA license (and national board certification) in the applicable state(s).
  • Tenure: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in urgent care or a comparable high-volume clinical setting. Internal AFC candidates must also have an endorsement from their Regional Operations Director.
  • Performance: Demonstrated strong clinical performance and productivity metrics in current or prior roles.
  • Clinical Skills: Strong independent judgment; ability to treat patients across the lifespan.
  • Certifications: Current BLS required; DOT certification preferred (or required based on market).
  • Leadership: Demonstrated readiness through prior mentorship, onboarding support, or positive peer influence.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience as a provider trainer, lead provider, or preceptor.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to AFC's clinical workflows, documentation standards, and scheduling systems; experience with comparable EMR and scheduling platforms in a multi-site urgent care setting is a plus.
  • Proven ability to lead through influence and maintain peer credibility.
