Hiring Range $125,000.00 - $155,000.00
Actual pay depends on specialty, experience, and performance.

Riverside is currently seeking a full-time Advanced Practice Provider (PA or NP, to include FNPs) to join our Neurosurgery team at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia.

Position Overview

The Advanced Practice Provider will work collaboratively with our Neurosurgery physicians to provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient neurosurgical care. The APP will participate in the evaluation, treatment, and management of patients with a variety of neurosurgical conditions, including spine disorders, traumatic brain injuries, intracranial pathologies, degenerative conditions, and postoperative neurosurgical care.

This position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with an experienced neurosurgical team while building expertise in a highly specialized and rewarding field.

Key Responsibilities & Expectations

The APP will be expected to:

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, histories, and physical examinations.
  • Evaluate neurosurgical consultations in the Emergency Department, inpatient units, and clinic settings.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with supervising neurosurgeons.
  • Order, interpret, and review diagnostic studies including laboratory tests and imaging.
  • Assist with pre-operative evaluations and postoperative patient management.
  • Provide inpatient rounding and follow-up care for neurosurgical patients.
  • Coordinate patient care across multidisciplinary teams, including hospitalists, intensivists, therapists, nurses, and specialists.
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, surgical procedures, recovery expectations, and follow-up care.
  • Perform procedures within scope of practice and credentialing requirements.
  • Document patient encounters accurately and timely within the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in call coverage responsibilities as assigned by the practice.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives, patient safety efforts, and evidence-based practice standards.
  • Maintain compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and organizational requirements.

  • Have a current, valid state of Virginia APRN license or be eligible for one.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Collaborative approach with other physicians and providers.

Preferred Experience

  • Prior Neurosurgery experience preferred (but not required).
  • Previous surgical, critical care, hospital-based, orthopedic spine, or neurology experience is beneficial.
