Facility: OrthoIndy NW Indianapolis, Carmel and Westfield
Department: Physiatry (Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation)
Shift Details: Full-time days, salaried, M-F with 8:00 am start time. Each week, this position will work three days at our Northwest Indianapolis location, one day at our Westfield location and one day at our Carmel location. Full benefits included!

General Statement of Duties:

ThePA/NP will be personally trained by the physician to evaluate patients withacute and chronic spine pathology, including but not limited to, herniated discscausing nerve root compression, myofascial injuries, and chronic arthriticconditions. The physician will trainthe PA/NP to prescribe appropriate non-narcotic medication management while weare actively treating the issue as well as how to order and read theappropriate diagnostic tests including EMGs, x-rays, CT's, and MRI's. The PA/NP would also be introduced to thephysician's network of physical therapists to maximize physical therapyoutcomes for our patients. Thephysician will need the PA/NP to utilize his/her clinical judgment to know whento refer patients for surgical consults with OrthoIndy surgeons. Once fully trained, the PA/NPwill mostly practice independently while running his/her own clinic and ofcourse, discussing patients with the physician as needed.

All clinical care provided by the Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) will be within the scope of the duties assigned by the supervising OrthoIndy Physician. The supervising Physician must be either physically present or immediately available for consultation when services are proved by the Advanced Practice Provider, including care provided using protocols, guidelines, and/or standing order. When the supervising Physician is unavailable, they may designate another Physician who has agreed to temporarily be responsible for the supervision.

Essential Duties:
  1. Helps plan and implement care of patients, including entering orders into the patient record that are verbal orders or part of standing orders or protocols approved by the supervising physician.
  2. Orders radiologic and laboratory tests and studies as necessary to complete history and physical examinations.
  3. Assesses patients and assesses normal and abnormal findings obtained from history and physical examination as well as radiology and ancillary studies.
  4. Plans and implements care of patients, including; EMR documentation, ordering additional studies: communicates with supervising Physician and additional staff, and prescribing appropriate medications.
  5. Helps to counsel individuals and families about their health-related issues. Communicates individualized teaching plans to patients based on their needs.
  6. Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals.

Requirements:
  • Master's degree in a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program required
  • National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants or American Association of Nurse Practitioners certification required
  • Indiana Physician Assistant Committee or Coalition of Advanced Practice Nurses of Indiana certification required
  • BLS certification required, ACLS preferred
  • No prior experience required, 1-2 years of related experience preferred
