Full Job Description
Nocturnist Neurocritical Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA)

MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, conveniently located in northeast Baltimore County just outside Baltimore City, is seeking an experienced Nocturnist Neurocritical Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our collaborative and growing Neurocritical Care team. As a designated Comprehensive Stroke Center and a destination for advanced neuroscience care within MedStar Health, Franklin Square offers an exceptional opportunity to practice in a high-acuity, multidisciplinary environment while developing advanced clinical and procedural expertise.

Position Summary

MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, a 338-bed community teaching hospital with academic affiliations through Georgetown University School of Medicine, is seeking a motivated Advanced Practice Provider to join our growing Neurocritical Care Unit (NCCU).

Our Neurocritical Care APPs are integral members of a high-acuity, multidisciplinary program, providing comprehensive care for critically ill patients with complex neurological and neurovascular conditions. APPs practice with a high degree of clinical autonomy while working closely with Neurocritical Care physicians, nurses, specialists, and other members of the multidisciplinary care team.

This role offers extensive opportunities to develop and maintain advanced procedural skills. APPs perform and participate in bedside procedures including central venouscatheter placement, comprehensive point-of-care ultrasound, arterial line placement, intubation, dialysis catheter insertion, chest tube insertion and removal, and lumbar puncture.

In addition to providing specialized care within the NCCU, our Advanced Practice Providers lead the hospital's Rapid Response and Sepsis Response Teams, providing emergent bedside assessment, clinical decision-making, stabilization, and coordination of care for acutely ill patients throughout the hospital.

Our established Neurocritical Care APP curriculum provides structured education and mentorship to support continued clinical growth, procedural expertise, and increasing autonomy.

Schedule

  • Full-time Nocturnist
  • The clinical schedule averages approximately 13 shifts per month, providing meaningful time away from the hospital and ample days off throughout the month. This schedule offers an excellent balance between a rewarding, high-acuity clinical practice and time for life outside of work.

Qualifications
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification
  • Board-certified Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) or Physician Assistant
  • Current Maryland licensure or eligibility for Maryland licensure
  • One year of APP clinical experience preferred, ideally in a critical care or neurocritical care setting
  • Experience with advanced bedside procedures preferred

  • Schedule flexibility with an average clinical target of approximately 13 shifts per month
  • Annual CME stipend
  • Reimbursement for professional licensure and medical staff fees
  • A collaborative APP and physician practice model
  • Opportunities to participate in performance improvement initiatives, committees, education, and staff development
