For over 30 years, Raytheon operates and maintains the Navy's three Relocatable Over The Horizon Radars (ROTHR). Each radar consists of a remote transmit and receive site. All radars are operated from the Consolidated Operations Control Center in Chesapeake, Virginia. Each radar is capable of covering over four million square miles across the Caribbean, Eastern Pacific, Central, and South America with all systems manned and operated 24 hours a day. The ROTHR mission is primarily to track and report the movement of aircraft and ships carrying illicit narcotics from South America toward Central America and the United States.

What You Will Do
  • Execute technical direction from the Receive Supervisor and Site Manager.
  • Perform corrective, preventive, and intermediate-level maintenance on servers, computers, peripheral devices, radar-related electronics, and communication systems. Support ROTHR/MARCAP system upgrades, enhancements, and testing activities.
  • Act as liaison between ROTHR Operations and Engineering; provide technical interpretation, troubleshooting support, and system-level coordination.
  • Conduct initial and refresher training for O&M personnel on system upgrades, enhancements, troubleshooting procedures, and preventive maintenance requirements.
  • Configure equipment and system test setups to support development, evaluation, and validation of system changes.
  • Assist the Site Supervisor in tracking equipment calibration to prevent delays in maintenance and repair operations. Maintain proficiency of junior personnel through continuous training in system operations, testing, diagnostics, repair procedures, and use of new/existing test equipment.
  • Develop and interpret block diagrams, flow diagrams, schematics, parts lists, specifications, and technical documentation. Monitor and evaluate daily system performance; provide analysis, corrective action documentation, and recommendations for improvement or escalation.
  • Plan, perform, or supervise system/subsystem testing and validation; correct deficiencies independently or through junior personnel tasking.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of maintenance work orders.
  • Coordinate with Operations Control Center (OCC) watch supervisors and engineering personnel during scheduled maintenance, upgrades, and unscheduled outages.
  • Support engineering personnel with testing, data collection, and enhancement activities.
  • Monitor operational schedules to ensure maintenance and development activities minimize downtime.
  • Cross-train with MARCAP Engineering Technician IV to ensure seamless technical leadership coverage.
  • Provide ADP/RSM support for new OTH radar initiatives. Successful candidate will perform all other related duties as assigned and required.
  • Ability to travel occasionally.


Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires HS diploma (or equivalent, e.g. G.E.D in the US) or vocational/technical education in related discipline with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Completion of an Electrical or Electronics Engineering Technology program (two-year technical institute minimum) or completion of a Military Technical School (minimum six-month curriculum).
  • Some experience with OpenVMS, Linux, networking technologies, and fiber optics.
  • Minimum 6 years of technical experience in electronics maintenance, troubleshooting, fault isolation, and repair of large military radar or equivalent surveillance systems.
  • Minimum 5 years of technician experience with assembly, overhaul, modification, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of radar, communications, or digital electronics systems of similar complexity to ROTHR.
  • Leadership experience supervising teams of 1-4 personnel
  • Required to be willing and able to work non-standard shifts to cover absent junior technicians as needed
  • Must have a clean motor vehicle driving record to obtain authorization to drive company vehicles.


Qualifications We Prefer
  • Active and current U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security Clearance.
  • Five years of experience with ROTHr radar technologies.
  • Working knowledge of OpenVMS, Linux, networking technologies, and fiber optics.
  • Five years of direct ROTHR receive site technician experience. Knowledge of beamforming principles.
  • Experience conducting or receiving training from external technical/engineering personnel and disseminating that training to junior staff.


The hourly rate for this role is $32.84. This is a lead position and therefore there is a 10% lead bonus added to the $32.84.

This position is on a service contract with a set (non-negotiable) hourly rate of $32.84/hour. This is a lead position and therefore there is a 10% lead bonus added to the $32.84. In addition, a Health & Welfare benefit is paid at $6.00/hour.

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
