What we offer

Reporting to the Vice President, Tax & Treasurer, the Actuary (P&C & Reinsurance) will build and advance Mattamy's actuarial capabilities across P&C underwriting and retrocession risk. The role will produce, analyze, report, and explain quarterly internal model results and translate capital, risk, and economic performance insights into clear recommendations for senior and executive management. It will also contribute to the continuous development of Mattamy's risk framework.

This is a unique opportunity to help establish and grow actuarial capabilities within Mattamy Asset Management. As one of the organization's first actuarial professionals, you will play a key role in shaping internal models, risk frameworks, and decision-making practices while partnering directly with senior leaders.

What you'll do
  • Assess and monitor P&C underwriting and retrocession risks to support adherence to Mattamy's risk appetite, leveraging professional expertise, analysis, and risk management experience.
  • Develop Mattamy's internal model to evaluate and price P&C underwriting risks. Analyze portfolio exposures, risk concentrations, and diversification effects across business lines, regions, and perils.
  • Perform scenario analyses and stress testing to assess the impact of adverse loss developments, catastrophe events, and changing market conditions on the P&C portfolio.
  • Monitoring and assessment of underwriting and retrocession risk profiles, providing risk insights to support informed decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable financial regulations, solvency requirements, and internal governance standards. Prepare and deliver risk reports for internal stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
  • Review, validate and align assumptions in third-party prepared actuarial outputs
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of risk appetite metrics, risk limits, and portfolio steering frameworks for P&C underwriting and retrocession risks.
  • Lead the analysis of the technical reserves on a quarterly basis for multiple lines of business.
  • Ongoing enhancement of Mattamy's internal model, drawing on practical experience, portfolio analysis, and business insights
  • Use your expertise to resolve complex problems and help your colleagues in doing the same by sharing your actuarial knowledge.
  • Ensure pricing models are appropriately calibrated and used by Underwriters, including rate change calculation.
  • Actively build relationships with Underwriters and assist in change management when onboarding Underwriters onto new pricing tools or platforms.
  • Collaborate on transformation and simplification, operational, technology, and data initiatives.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities and initiatives as required

What you bring
  • Fellow-level actuarial designation (e.g., FCAS, FIA, SAV, DAV or equivalent internationally recognized actuarial qualification).
  • Practical experience in using Internal Models (SST, Solvency II) for P&C underwriting & retrocession risks analysis, with emphasis experience having built the models
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in P&C insurance or reinsurance
  • Experience in pricing, reserving, capital modelling, or portfolio management.
  • Experience in communicating actuarial analysis to senior stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and coding (Python, R, SQL, etc.).
  • Experienced project leader in an agile, multinational, cross-functional environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and fluent in English.

Bonus points
  • Experience implementing actuarial pricing tools, internal models, or data platforms.
  • Experience helping establish or grow actuarial capabilities within an evolving organization.
