The RoleThe Accounting Manager is a vital position on the accounting team at SPAN. Reporting to the VP, Controller, this individual will demonstrate the ability to manage a team of one or two staff. The Accounting Manager will demonstrate a strategic mindset and act in a fiduciary capacity with respect to the company's assets and business interests. Critical skills for this position include solid experience with US GAAP, clear communications, being a team player, maintaining confidentiality, detail-oriented, and acting with the highest degree of integrity.
Responsibilities- Monthly, quarterly and annual accounting close entries and reconciliations for various general ledger accounts, including revenue, payroll, stock based compensation, prepaids, investments, debt and equity securities, fixed assets and capitalized software.
- Develop accounting procedures, processes and implement best practices to increase quality and speed of closing activities
- Review daily treasury activity
- Review and analyze monthly financial statements and flux analysis
- Assist to publish and report financial results to the executive leadership team and broader management
- Assist with investor and compliance reporting
- Assist with Income Tax and Sales Tax filing and reporting
- Manage the accounting close process
- Coach, mentor, and provide developmental opportunities for direct reports
- Support the sales and sales operations teams with processing customer credits and billings, and the implementation of new programs as needed
- Serve as the main point of contact for the annual financial statement and bank audit processes
About You Required Qualifications- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and accruals
- Minimum 5 years hands-on experience with contract manufacturing and consignment inventory accounting in a manufacturing or hardware environment, revenue recognition (ASC 606) and lease accounting (ASC 842).
- Experience handing accounting and reporting for Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) entities; and managing/supporting standalone entity reporting
- Must have experience running the accounting close process and managing expectations, communications and deadlines
- Must have experience with month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, and flux/variance analysis
- Experience with month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, and flux/variance analysis
- Must have a recent proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, with intermediate to advanced Excel skills
- Must have proficiency with NetSuite. Experience with FloQast or Blackline, Salesforce and Boomi is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to build cross-functional relationships and communicate financial concepts clearly to non-finance partners
- Prior experience mentoring, coaching, or managing direct reports
- Agile, adaptable, and a fast learner, comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proactive, self-motivated, takes initiative and ability to work with little supervision
- Team player with a positive attitude; flexible to adapt to changing needs/priorities.
Bonus Qualifications- Experience writing technical accounting analysis and memoranda preferred
- Mfg./electrification industry experience a plus
- Public accounting experience preferred
- CPA preferred
