  • Occasional local travel for meetings and organizational support
  • Hybrid in Greater St. Paul, Minneapolis metro area

Pay:

The annual salary range for this position is $90,000 - $110,000. We take into consideration an individual's background and experience in determining salary; therefore, base pay offered may vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes a wide range of other benefits and earned time off that vary depending on part-time or full-time status.

Job Summary:

The Accounting Manager plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of the Association's financial reporting and systems. Support the development, maintenance, and oversight of financial statements, financial systems, and internal controls, while ensuring adherence to regulatory and organizational requirements.

Lead complex and specialized accounting functions, including investments, endowments, contributed revenue, and grant accounting-ensuring accurate billing, tracking, reporting, and compliance with donor and regulatory requirements. Oversee the accounting and reporting of capital assets and expenditures, including the development of comprehensive capital reporting processes.

Additional responsibilities include supporting debt financing compliance and investment activities, while identifying opportunities to strengthen processes and enhance financial transparency. Provides direct supervision and development of the Senior Accountant, fostering strong technical expertise, accountability, and continuous improvement across the function.

Relationships:

This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Accounting who reports to the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and supervises the Senior Accountant. Provide association finance and accounting resource support for branch management and association offices team members. Represent the Association with peer and financial institutions.

Qualifications

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, or related field; demonstrated experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive non-profit accounting experience
  • Minimum of one (1) year supervisor experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles, methods, and applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills along with attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple tasks with conflicting deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to create a team environment.
  • Proficient user of the Microsoft Office suite.

Preferred
  • CPA certification and/or MBA degree.
  • Experience preparing financial statements and tax returns.
  • Experience with improving and streamlining business practices.
  • Bi/multilingual.

Work Conditions:

Must be able to work on a computer for extended periods of time.
May be required to travel locally for meetings.

This job description represents the major functions of the position but is not intended to be all-inclusive. Essential Functions

  • Assist with developing and maintaining a system of financial controls which assures compliance with internal policies, external regulations, GAAP and non-profit accounting standards, donor intent and the integrity of all financial transactions.
  • Oversee the accounting for all capital assets and expenditures, including major capital investment projects.
    Hire, train, and supervise the Senior Accountant.
  • Manage accounting systems and reporting for all capital assets, endowment and investments, restricted funds, including grants, contributions and others as required.
  • Contribute to the year-end audit and preparation of audit work papers, financial statements, and coordinate the resulting annual corporate tax returns and other annual and monthly reports.
  • Support the fiscal implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of complex government grant-funded programs (including federal, state, county and local) to ensure fiscal compliance and all contract funding terms and conditions are met.
  • Navigate government billing systems and leverage internal software systems to develop more efficient processes for submitting expenses for reimbursement
  • Provide comprehensive fiscal knowledge, accounting support, financial analysis, and technical assistance to branches, departments and/or programs.
  • Reconcile and/or review the reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and prepare audit schedules for various accounts.
  • Aid in developing accounting policies and procedures which create efficiencies and implement best practices.
    Develop and maintain relationships with auditors, bankers, investment managers and other professional advisors.
