Accounting Manager
The Accounting Manager will be responsible for overseeing accounting operations, ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, and leading, developing, and mentoring a team of accounting professionals.
The ideal candidate will combine strong technical accounting expertise with a demonstrated ability to build team capability, develop talent, provide coaching and feedback, and foster a collaborative, high-performing work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee accounting operations including financial reporting, order to cash, procure to pay, project accounting and fund accounting.
- Manage monthly, quarterly, annual close processes.
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals through real time coaching, regular one-on-one meetings, performance feedback, training, delegation and career development planning.
- Create a positive, accountable, and collaborative team environment that promotes continuous learning and professional growth.
- Identify opportunities to expand staff capabilities, increase cross-training and build bench strength within the accounting function.
- Review staff work including journal entries, reconciliations and reporting.
- Deliver high-quality financial information and ensure accuracy, timeliness and compliance.
- Oversee onboarding and training for new hires and create development plans for current staff.
- Oversee the system of internal controls over accounting functions to minimize risk. Maintain internal control memoranda and portions of policies and procedures documents pertaining to Finance & Accounting functions.
- Support others in development of annual budgets, quarterly variance analysis and reforecasting, donor reporting, grant reporting and compliance reporting.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Oversee the preparation of month-end and periodic financial statements, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures as well as best practices.
- Ensure financial reports comply with generally accepted accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
- Create management and financial reports on a monthly, quarterly, annual or ad-hoc basis. Assist other departments to prepare financial reports. Reports can include funder, park project, department, donor, grant-making, compliance and/or other financial reports for internal or external use.
- Coordinate annual audit workpaper preparation and information requested by external auditors.
- Maintain accounting policies and procedures ensuring best practices are documented and followed. Identify and recommend updates to accounting processes and procedures.
- Comply with local, state, and federal government requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate or bachelor's degree required, preferably in Finance or Accounting, Business Administration, or closely related field.
- Proven success leading, coaching, mentoring, and developing accounting professionals, including providing performance feedback, creating development opportunities, and building high-performing teams.
- Demonstrated ability to foster a positive, accountable and collaborative work environment while maintaining high performance standards.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft products, advanced skills in Excel required.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
- Preferred: CPA license, nonprofit accounting experience
- Preferred: Knowledge of and experience with MIP Abila experience, knowledge of and experience with PowerBI.
Position Setting:
The Accounting Manager is currently a hybrid role with a mix of in office and work from home days possible.
Compensation:
This is a salary, exempt position, with a range of $80,000 - $90,000/annually commensurate with skills and experience. Benefits include full medical, dental and vision benefits, paid time off, short-and long-term disability, and 401k retirement plan.
