Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review journal entries while analyzing accounts in accordance with GAAP
  • Lead efforts to enhance accuracy and efficiency in OPEX and settlements accounting
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to a team of 2 accountants
  • Collaborate with different departments to ensure accurate financial reporting on the balance sheet
  • Work with technical teams to optimize systems for accounting functions related to new business ventures
  • Ensure SOX compliance by maintaining controls and related narratives
  • Compile monthly journal entries and achieve a two-day financial close

Job Description

What you'll be doing:
  • Prepare and review journal entries, analyze accounts, and oversee accounting processes in line with generally accepted accounting principles
  • Work to improve accuracy and efficiency in the accounting functions focused heavily on OPEX and Settlements
  • Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to 2 accountants
  • Partner with other departments to create and maintain processes to properly account for respective areas on the balance sheet
  • Partner with Staples technical teams on how to best leverage systems in supporting accounting functions (settlements) for new business venture
  • Ensure sufficient controls are in place with respect to these areas and maintain related SOX narratives
  • Compile journal entries monthly and maintain a two-day close
  • Analyze accounts monthly through balance sheet reconciliation process
  • Review accounts reconciliations completed by both on-shore and off-shore accounting team
  • Partner with off-shore team to process map areas to implement efficiencies in processes
  • Perform reporting and forecasting for related balance sheet and P&L lines
  • Support internal and external auditors on audit requests
  • Perform ad hoc analysis

  • 6+ years of accounting experience, ideally working in areas such as OPEX, settlements, reconciliations and related areas
