ACCOUNTANT Non-Management- Non-Exempt
Salary Range: $97,137 - $118,070Position Open Until Filled
The Accountant is responsible for performing the day-to-day accounting functions of the organization, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, general ledger maintenance, bank and investment reconciliations, financial reporting, and audit support. The Accountant works independently in carrying out assigned accounting duties, while the Finance Manager retains responsibility for oversight, review, approval, and overall administration of the accounting function.
Supervision Received and ExercisedReceives direction and general supervision from the Finance Manager. Work performed by the Accountant is subject to review and approval by the Finance Manager. No supervision exercised.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Prepare and maintain general ledger reconciliations and supporting schedules for review by the Finance Manager.
- Prepare monthly and annual financial reports for review by the Finance Manager.
- Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation and assist the Finance Manager during the annual audit process.
- Prepare journal entries, account analyses, and account reconciliations for review and approval by the Finance Manager.
- Manage the full accounting cycle, including AP, AR, billing, deposits, payroll, journal entries, reconciliations, month-end close, and year-end close.
- Prepare and complete month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules for review by the Finance Manager.
- Process payroll for the approval of the Finance Manager.
- Create and maintain accurate and complete accounting records and files.
- Prepare deposits, post receipts, and reconcile billing.
- Prepare monthly bank and investment reconciliations for review by the Finance Manager.
- Effectively research, track, resolve, or properly refer accounting or documentation problems and discrepancies.
- Assist the Finance Manager with the management of the Treasury.
- Prepare reporting in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Assist the Finance Manager with preparation of annual operating budgets and other special financial analysis.
- Assist with the calculation of dividends and deficit reporting
Knowledge of
- Working knowledge of accounting theories, practices, and best practices.
- Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB)
Skills in
- Computer applications including Microsoft Office. Excellent spreadsheet, keyboarding, 10-key, and data entry skills. Experience with Sage Intacct or similar cloud-based accounting software is highly desirable.
Ability to
- Perform a volume of numerical detail work with speed and accuracy, to make difficult mathematical computations with and without mechanical assistance, and to apply mathematical reasoning and analysis.
- Understand and follow complex oral and written instructions and technical or legal terminology.
- Provide written and oral communication clearly.
- Work proficiently with accounting software.
- Read, review and interpret contracts for accounts payable.

Minimum QualificationsEducation / Training
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in Accounting, Business, or Public Administration, and an emphasis in Accounting.
Experience
Three to five years of experience as an accountant with an insurance organization, public entity, or joint powers authority. Experience with governmental accounting, GASB reporting, and annual financial audits is highly desirable.
License/Certifications
California Driver's License
