Account Manager, Internal Sales - Pharma & Medical Device Portfolios Reporting to Senior Manager

The Account Manager is responsible for managing and retaining a portfolio of accounts across Wiley's Pharma and Medical Device portfolios, driving revenue growth through relationship building, strategic account planning, and consultative sales approaches. This role requires a deep understanding of customer needs within the U.S. healthcare advertising landscape, data-driven decision making, and the ability to identify cross-selling opportunities across journal and non-journal products - including Wiley's suite of health advertising solutions targeting healthcare professionals (HCPs).

Job Responsibilities:
  • Manage a portfolio of 100-200 accounts with responsibility for revenue targets and renewal rates
  • Develop and execute strategic account plans, setting goals and revisiting strategies throughout the year
  • Analyze customer usage data and performance trends to understand account health and proactively address issues
  • Renew and renegotiate agreements, managing paperwork and compliance requirements - including U.S. healthcare advertising regulatory and compliance standards.
  • Identify and pursue cross-selling opportunities based on institutional and corporate research needs, spanning journal advertising, ePDF placements, email campaigns, and multi-touch digital solutions on the Wiley Online Library
  • Leverage Wiley's health sciences portfolio. 430 journals across 37 specialties, 273 in partnership with a society to align pharma client messaging with credible, peer-reviewed content that HCPs trust
  • Articulate Wiley's value proposition to pharma media buyers and marketing teams, drawing on data such as over 8.8 million unique monthly visitors to Wiley's medical content and the insight that HCPs are five times more likely to notice an advertisement on a journal platform versus a pharma-sponsored channel
  • Research customer organizations including medical affairs, publications, marketing, and brand teams to understand their pipeline stage and tailor solutions across the full drug development lifecycle, from awareness and consideration through to selection and prescribing behavior
  • Build and expand relationships with key stakeholders at client organizations, including agency contacts and third-party media buyers
  • Execute data-driven negotiations that deliver successful agreement outcomes, including demonstrating ROI through engagement metrics, click-through rates, and campaign attribution tools
  • Maintain accurate records in CRM systems and provide regular forecasting
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including customer success, sales operations, and editorial
  • Represent Wiley at U.S. healthcare and pharma industry conferences and events
  • Liaise with Agency contacts frequently, including pharma media planning agencies

Required Qualifications:
  • 4-year undergraduate degree
  • Prior experience hitting targets and managing strategic accounts, ideally within healthcare publishing, pharma media, or health advertising
  • Experience in complex selling situations, including navigating U.S. healthcare advertising compliance requirements
  • Ability to diagnose institutional and corporate subject-level research and marketing needs across pharma and veterinary sectors
  • Ability to identify and manage cross-selling opportunities across print, digital, and multi-touch advertising formats
  • Strong email/written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage one's own book of business
  • Proven success in exceeding financial sales goals using a consultative sales approach
  • Hunter mentality with strong emphasis on revenue growth

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Salesforce Proficiency
  • Sales methodology training
  • Familiarity with U.S. pharma advertising standards and industry bodies
  • Understanding of HCP engagement trends and pharma digital media landscape
