Full Job Description
Position Location: Hampton Roads, VA (fully onsite)

This position and the associated duties and responsibilities are contingent upon securing the necessary funding and formal contract award.

Makai is seeking a Data Scientist in support of the Global Command and Control System (GCCS) contract. Your career at Makai enables the GCCS team to perform manpower assessment and reporting activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Collates, reviews, and analyzes combat readiness data gathering systems. Performs planning, analyzing, coding, designing, integrating, testing, deploying, and supporting production of Air Combat Command (ACC) Readiness data systems, to include Palantir Envision, for all stages of the software product life cycle. Tasks the Contractor shall perform include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide analysis capability in Envision to develop project concepts, create data pipelines/objects/ontologies, code with Python, SQL, C code as required, create application dashboards, and provide ongoing user support.
  • Execute analytical experiments to help solve problems across various domains and industries.
  • Identify relevant data sources and sets to mine for client business needs and collect large structured and unstructured datasets and variables.
  • Devise and utilize algorithms and models to mine big-data stores; perform data and error analysis to improve models; clean and validate data for uniformity and accuracy.
  • Facilitate meetings with internal and external stakeholders, team members, and users to understand, define, and map data processing and visualization requirements.
  • Recommend alternate options and propose solutions for data analysis with reports, and management tools to meet defined end-user needs.
  • Recommend changes to underlying data sets and source reports to optimize data processing and visualization efforts for senior level leadership.
  • Draft and update guidance, references, and training documents for users.
  • Provide recurring user training for the Foundry Palantir Envision suite.
  • Provide users support for ACC portfolio of Envision portfolio to include data sources, data pipelines, ontology, objects, preparation, workbook, contour, quiver, workspace, and code repositories, and any additional applications.
  • Manage multiple projects with tracking, milestones, deadlines, timelines, and time allocation to ensure prioritization and project completion.
  • Coordinate and communicate with stakeholders, team members, and users as required to manage programs and projects.
  • Manage site owner and admin of knowledge management systems (SharePoint, TMT) with accurate, current information, and optimize processes for efficient use by users.
  • Create and provide reoccurring briefings and deliverables to leadership on all responsible programs as requested.


Years of Experience: 2 years of experience designing code and web-based database applications in Python, SQL, R, and Tableau / 2 years of experience with NIPR/SIPR enterprise environments / 2 years of experience with software engineering & software development life cycle / 2 years of experience designing data pipelines, cloud native applications, and working with data analytical applications like Foundry

Degree/Education and Training Requirements: Bachelor's degree in information systems, Computer Science, Math, Engineering, or similar

Security Clearance Requirements: Active DoD security clearance

Certification Requirements: IAT Level II certification IAW DoD 8570/8140 and Data Science certification from an accredited institution

Travel Requirements: Up to 10%

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Work will be performed inside a large facility. An inside environment may be a cubicle (considerations: close quarters, low to moderate noise, bright or dim lighting).
  • Work assignments vary based on client requirements.
  • Sitting at desk. Phone use and PC or laptop. Filing required. May require lifting and carrying boxes of supplies or files up to 25 lbs. Extended periods of sitting while on PC/laptop or phone.
  • General office equipment, which includes telephone, fax machine, copier, PC/laptop, and other miscellaneous office equipment.
  • Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is mandatory.
  • You may be asked to continue performance during inclement weather or other conditions when others are not permitted to work
  • 30% travel expected in support of this contract
  • Candidates must exhibit professional behavior that promotes teamwork, fosters cooperation, and enhances productivity in the workplace. Must be well organized with the ability to coordinate, prioritize and execute multiple tasks simultaneously in a high-pressure environment.   • Grooming and dress is usually business casual, but dependent on client's standards. Must not pose a safety hazard to employees working in the same general area.


Estimated Compensation
  • $130,000 - $140,000


Individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to employee's experience, skills, education, industry, location, company size, and overall market demand.
