Shelby County Schools is a public school district that serves the Memphis, Tennessee metropolitan area. The district was formed in 2013 when the Memphis City Schools district merged with the Shelby County Schools district. Shelby County Schools is the largest school district in Tennessee and one of the largest in the United States, with over 14,000 employees and more than 100,000 students. The district operates over 200 schools, including elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as alternative schools and special education centers. Shelby County Schools is governed by a seven-member board of education.
