The National Defense University (NDU) is an institution of higher education funded by the United States Department of Defense for the purpose of providing graduate-level education to senior military officers and civilians. The university's mission is to support the joint warfighter by providing rigorous Joint Professional Military Education to members of the U.S. Armed Forces and select others in order to develop leaders that have the ability to operate and creatively think in an unpredictable and complex world. The university's main campus is located on the grounds of Fort Lesley J. McNair in Washington, D.C. The university's faculty is composed of senior military officers and civilians with extensive experience in the military and other government agencies. The university offers a variety of programs, including the National War College, the Joint Forces Staff College, and the Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy.
