Florida Memorial University is a private, coeducational, four-year university in Miami Gardens, Florida. It is a member of the United Negro College Fund and historically black colleges and universities. The university offers 41 undergraduate degree programs and four graduate degree programs. The university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. The university was founded in 1879 as the Florida Baptist Institute in Live Oak, Florida. In 1918, the college moved to St. Augustine, Florida, and in 1968, moved to its present location in Miami Gardens. The university's athletic teams, nicknamed the Lions, compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics as members of the Sun Conference.
