Does Zoom fatigue have you just about on the verge of tears? In an effort to help fight the pandemic’s biggest work side-effect, Zoom has introduced a new feature to make meetings more fun by bringing everyone together in one virtual room.
The new feature — called “Immersive View” — makes the little square boxes of your colleagues a thing of the past by allowing hosts to arrange up to 25 participants together in one meeting environment.
The feature was originally announced at Zoomtopia 2020. The fun, virtual setting is designed to recreate office-like vibes by having participants appear together in a virtual setting, such as a boardroom or conference room.
“When enabling Immersive View, hosts will have the option to automatically or manually place participants into a virtual scene of their choosing,” the company said in a blog. “Hosts can also easily move participants around that scene and even resize a participant’s image for a more natural experience.”
Does Immersive View really feel like an office?
The tool seems designed specifically for the hybrid work role, which many workers continue to find themselves in since the start of the pandemic.
There’s been enough stories about workers feeling burnt out from endless video conferences, and the new feature aims to let everyone feel like they are together.
In addition, users can upload their own virtual background and immerse participants together, so if there’s a photo from your office that you haven’t been to in over a year, this could be a nice way of getting the band back together under one virtual roof.
Immersive View is available for all free and single pro accounts using Zoom 5.6.3. or higher. It can also be enabled through Zoom’s web portal. More information can be found on the company’s website.
