The Senior Engineer, Workday Platform is responsible for the governance, configuration, support, enhancement, stability, and strategic administration of the organization's Workday platform, including Workday HCM, Payroll, Financials, Procurement, and Adaptive Planning. This role coordinates and oversees configuration completed by module experts and partners closely with HR, Payroll, Finance, Accounting, Procurement, Technology, and external service providers to ensure changes are aligned across the Workday platform, business processes are effectively enabled through technology solutions, and potential downstream impacts are identified and addressed.

Essential Functions for this role include:
  • Serve as the primary technical owner for Workday HCM, Payroll, Financials, Procurement, and Adaptive Planning, ensuring consistent configuration, ongoing system effectiveness, stability, and business alignment across the platform.
  • Partner with HR, Payroll, Finance, Accounting, Procurement, and Technology leaders to understand business priorities and translate requirements into scalable system solutions.
  • Act as the primary liaison between business stakeholders, software vendors, managed service providers, and Technology teams.
  • Manage relationships with Workday and third-party support providers, including service delivery oversight, issue escalation, performance management, and periodic service reviews.
  • Oversee application support activities and ensure internal and external support resources meet service level commitments.
  • Coordinate and govern the intake, evaluation, prioritization, and approval of enhancement requests across HR, Payroll, Finance, Accounting, Procurement, and Planning functions, ensuring proposed solutions are aligned across Workday modules.
  • Lead the Workday change control process, including assessment of business and technical impacts, cross-module dependencies, security and integration implications, prioritization, resource allocation, testing, scheduling, deployment, and post-deployment validation activities.
  • Develop and maintain the Workday platform roadmap and configuration standards aligned with business objectives, technology strategies, and vendor product direction.
  • Lead planning and execution of Workday biannual releases and other platform upgrades, including cross-module impact assessments, regression testing coordination, stakeholder communications, training activities, deployment readiness, and post-deployment validation.
  • Evaluate new Workday and Adaptive Planning functionality and recommend adoption opportunities that improve business processes, controls, reporting, platform stability, and user experience.
  • Manage and deliver Workday enhancement initiatives and projects, including scope definition, requirements gathering, solution design, configuration, coordination and review of configuration completed by module experts, resource planning, budget management, testing, deployment, and post-implementation support.

  • 7 to 10 years of progressive experience supporting, administering, configuring, and governing enterprise SaaS applications, including substantial Workday experience across multiple functional areas.
  • SaaS application governance, configuration, release management, change control, enhancement intake, and cross-functional impact assessment.
  • Experience troubleshooting technical, security, integration, configuration, and functional issues across the Workday platform.
  • Workday administration, configuration, and governance across HCM, Payroll, Financials, Procurement, Adaptive Planning, Security, Reporting, and Integrations.
  • Business process analysis, requirements translation, solution design, testing/UAT coordination, deployment validation, and stakeholder communication.
  • Strong understanding of finance, accounting, payroll, HR, procurement, planning, and reporting processes including cross-functional dependencies across the Workday platform.
  • Access controls, role/security governance, Workday configuration standards, SOC/CUEC coordination, audit evidence support, and compliance-related controls.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Workday module experts, integration developers, project managers, security engineers, business stakeholders, external service providers, and senior management.
  • Experience evaluating and coordinating configuration changes across multiple Workday modules to ensure consistency, alignment, and minimal downstream impact.
  • Experience leading Workday releases, upgrades, regression testing, deployment readiness activities, and change governance processes.
  • Ability to assess business and technical impacts of proposed configuration changes, including security, integrations, reporting, payroll, and financial dependencies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain Workday governance standards, documentation, and platform best practices.
