Full Job Description
The Weld Engineer II supports manufacturing and production operations within Holtec International by developing, qualifying, and implementing advanced welding processes for complex components across nuclear, energy, and heavy industrial applications. This role is responsible for providing materials and welding engineering expertise, improving welding procedures, and supporting troubleshooting and continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate brings strong technical depth in welding engineering, hands-on manufacturing experience, and the ability to collaborate across engineering, quality, and operations teams in a fast-paced environment.

Location: Orville, OH (Onsite)

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Develop technically sound and cost-effective welding and materials solutions to support design, manufacturing, and repair operations
  • Review new product designs and recommend appropriate materials and joining techniques based on performance requirements such as strength, corrosion resistance, and cost
  • Support the qualification and implementation of welding procedures, including advanced and non-traditional techniques
  • Collaborate with design engineering, project management, and production teams to support new manufacturing projects
  • Perform root cause analysis on welding and materials-related failures using testing, data analysis, and process history
  • Monitor material and weld performance in service to identify potential degradation or improvement opportunities
  • Troubleshoot welding equipment issues and work with operations to optimize welding processes
  • Ensure all welding activities conform to applicable codes and standards including ASME Section III & IX and AWS standards
  • Prepare technical reports, weld qualification records, budgets, and engineering documentation
  • Participate in hands-on manufacturing, inspection activities, and support NDE methods and field services


Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field
  • Minimum of 8 years of welding engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Strong knowledge of weld symbols, fabrication drawings, and welding processes
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex manufacturing and materials challenges in a cross-functional environment
  • Experience with FANUC robotic programming
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts clearly
  • Ability to travel up to 10-20% as needed
  • Physical ability to support shop-floor operations, including lifting up to 50 lbs and working in industrial environments
  • Hands-on welding or inspection experience preferred
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification preferred
  • Familiarity with nuclear codes and standards including ASME Section III & IX, AWS D1.1/D1.2/D1.6, and military specifications preferred
  • Experience supporting NDE techniques such as VT, PT, MT, RT, or DR preferred
  • Experience with friction stir welding techniques preferred


Compensation:
  • Annual compensation based on skills and experience ranging from $80,000 to $95,000
