OverviewThe role is accountable for achieving an assigned annual sales quota and for actively owning prospecting, opportunity creation, pipeline progression, and pursuit outcomes from initial identification through proposal development, negotiation, and closure, with a particular focus on the larger end of the state and local government market. The role is expected to consistently generate qualified pipeline and new revenue opportunities for Alight's defined benefit and defined contribution solutions. The executive identifies priority prospects, develops senior-level relationships, leads early-stage discovery and qualification, and works with Solution Architects, Consultant Relations, and business leaders to develop and execute differentiated pursuit strategies. Success in the role will be measured by disciplined market coverage, accurate forecasting, qualified pipeline creation, advancement of strategic opportunities, and achievement of assigned revenue goals. The role requires a strategic, consultative seller who can establish credibility quickly, navigate complex buying environments, and convert market opportunities into qualified enterprise pursuits.
Key ResponsibilitiesMarket Development and Prospecting- Own and achieve assigned annual new business revenue and pipeline quotas through direct prospecting, disciplined opportunity creation, qualification, and advancement of strategic Wealth opportunities through closure.
- Develop and execute targeted account and market-development plans.
- Identify priority organizations, buyers, influencers, consultants, and market events.
- Create qualified opportunities through direct outreach, relationships, referrals, and consultant channels.
- Maintain disciplined prospect, activity, pipeline, next-step, and forecast information in the company's CRM platform to support management visibility and sales accountability.
Discovery and Qualification- Lead early-stage discovery to understand business priorities, buying criteria, stakeholders, competitive dynamics, timing, and funding.
- Apply a consistent qualification methodology and be accountable for clearly documenting pursuit viability, decision criteria, risks, timing, and required next actions.
- Recommend whether, when, and how Alight should engage each opportunity, and take ownership for advancing qualified opportunities or closing out opportunities that do not meet pursuit criteria.
Pursuit Strategy and Solution Positioning- Translate prospect challenges into differentiated value propositions across defined benefit, defined contribution, retirement advice and self-directed brokerage solutions.
- Partner with solutions, pricing, proposal, legal, and operational teams to shape pursuit and proposal strategies.
- Contribute market and buyer insights throughout RFP, pricing, negotiation, and contracting activities, while maintaining accountability for pursuit strategy, sales progression, and deal momentum.
Executive and Market Relationships- Build trusted relationships with senior staff, benefits, finance, procurement, and executive stakeholders.
- Position Alight's Wealth capabilities within standalone defined benefits and defined contribution opportunities and broader total retirement outsourcing strategies.
- Represent Alight at industry events, conferences, consultant meetings, and targeted prospect engagements.
QualificationsRequired- Enterprise business-development or sales experience in retirement, benefits, HR outsourcing, or a related market.
- Demonstrated success owning sales outcomes, generating qualified pipeline, advancing opportunities, and winning new client relationships against assigned goals.
- Experience navigating complex, multi-stakeholder buying processes.
- Strong discovery, executive communication, presentation, negotiation, and forecasting skills.
- Ability to translate client needs into differentiated business and solution value.
- Willingness and ability to travel based on client and business needs.
Preferred- Experience with public sector defined benefits, defined contribution, retirement advice and brokerage solutions.
- Experience working with benefits consultants and advisory firms.
- Knowledge of total retirement outsourcing connected-benefits strategies.
- FINRA Series 7 and 66 licenses, or willingness and eligibility to obtain applicable licenses.
