Position Overview
Kiewit Infrastructure Engineers has an immediate opening for a Water Resources Engineer in our growing Design Engineering group. In this role, you will support the development of water resources and drainage designs for infrastructure projects across North America, including design-build, progressive design-build, and construction manager/general contractor (CM/GC) delivery methods.
Working alongside experienced engineers and multidisciplinary teams, you will gain hands-on experience in hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, drainage design, stormwater management, and related water resources engineering tasks. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop your technical skills while contributing to complex and impactful transportation, water, and infrastructure projects.
As a Water Resources Engineer, you will collaborate with engineers, designers, and project teams across Kiewit's design centers to deliver high-quality engineering solutions. Location
This position is based in Lone Tree, Colorado, or Bellevue, Washington. Occasional travel to project sites and other Kiewit offices may be required to support project and team needs.
Responsibilities
You will be part of a collaborative team supporting the design and delivery of major transportation and heavy civil infrastructure projects across North America. In this role, you will contribute to drainage and water resources engineering efforts, including hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, drainage design, and the preparation of engineering reports, technical memoranda, plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
As your experience grows, you will have opportunities to work on a variety of water resources design activities, including:
Hydrologic Analysis
• Perform single-event and continuous rainfall modeling.
• Conduct watershed analyses and develop hydrographs, peak discharge estimates, and flow routing evaluations.
Hydraulic Analysis
• Support the design and analysis of roadway drainage systems, culverts, storm drain networks, pump stations, bridges, and scour protection measures.
• Assist with sediment transport evaluations, revetment design, and coastal drainage considerations for transportation projects.
• Participate in floodplain analyses and gain exposure to FEMA/NFIP processes, including CLOMR and LOMR applications.
• Perform stormwater quantity and quality assessments, low-impact development (LID) evaluations, erosion control design, and NPDES compliance activities.
Drainage Design
• Develop drainage plans, profiles, specifications, and construction cost estimates for transportation and water resources projects.
• Utilize engineering software and modeling tools to develop terrain models, grading designs, and drainage system layouts, including applications such as OpenRoads/InRoads, ArcGIS, and other design and analysis platforms.
Qualifications
• BS in Civil Engineering
• EIT or FE required
• 2+ years drainage/hydrology/water resources design experience
• Design-Build project experience preferred
• Software Modeling experience required in one or more of the following: MicroStation, AutoCAD, Arc-GIS, GEOPAK, Inroads, Civil3D, OpenRoads, HydroCAD.
• Drainage/Hydrology software experience required in one or more of the following: HEC-RAS, HEC-GEORAS, HY-8, CulvertMaster, StormCAD, CivilStorm, PondPack, FlowMaster, 2D experience helpful such as SRH-2D, FLO-2D
• Understanding of FHWA hydraulic engineering circulars and design series
• Must have excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to work with
• This position includes occasional travel to project offices and work sites. Ability to travel at times

Base Compensation: $97,000/yr - $102,000/yr
