Join US as a VP, Surety Solutions

The Opportunity

Working closely with business leaders and your peers, we are looking for a VP, Surety Solutions. You will be instrumental in leading and building out the surety business in Ontario and Atlantic Canada, through working collaboratively with the Tokio Marine Canada Surety unit. What You Will Be Doing

Strategy, Broker Management and Brand promotion

  • Partner closely with the Senior Vice President and the Surety Leadership Group to develop and execute the strategic direction for Ontario and Atlantic Canada, aligned with national surety priorities.
  • Help lead the day-to-day surety operations for Ontario and Atlantic Canada, promoting consistent underwriting practices, strong execution, accountability and effective communication across the team.
  • Provide leadership, analysis, and insight for the Ontario and Atlantic Canada regions by monitoring the competitive landscape, optimizing risk selection, and enhancing the company's competitive position.
  • Ownership over budgeting, identifying critical success factors and ensuring goals are being met.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of overall line of business performance through analysis of reports while taking strategic actions to improve results.
  • Proactively work with broker partners to strengthen relationships and ensure business plans are met.
  • Build and manage select broker relationships.
  • Working closely with surety team in building and implementing broker strategy.
  • Promoting the Tokio Marine Canada brand, working closely with various business units including Commercial Insurance and ProFin.
  • Travel to various regions on a regular basis. Participate in various broker and industry events as required.


Underwriting

  • Evaluate new risks through thorough analysis to determine acceptability and pricing.
  • Analyze financial statements, capacity, collateral and character of new surety opportunities.
  • Analyze and review projects, approving within given authority, or recommending approval or denial of surety bonds.
  • Conducting ongoing review and management of surety portfolio, ensuring accounts information is current with action items being followed up.
  • Work with surety team in creating and improving systems and processes, with focus on continued efficiencies.
  • Help assist underwriting efforts and decision making across country where needed.
  • Support marketing, legal and claims services when required.
  • Working closely and collaboratively with Surety Team across Canada.


People Leadership

  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive and high-performance culture by building trust, encouraging open dialogue and working effectively within the surety team.
  • Lead and mentor younger underwriter(s) to ensure continuous professional development and high performance.
  • Perform ongoing talent management, including hiring, mentoring, training, performance management, and recognition.

You are an experienced Surety leader. You are a team player with a positive attitude who thrives in a consensus culture with an emphasis on collaboration. You are comfortable working on a lean team and are not afraid to roll up your sleeves and do the work that needs to be done.

What you Bring:

  • University Bachelor's Degree, Business or related preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Surety, with direct people leader experience
  • Strong leadership skills to motivate, develop, and manage performance for results.
  • Strong financial acumen and the ability to use data to drive decision-making.
  • Extensive understanding of business, underwriting, and corporate risk management and mitigation methods.
  • The ability to partner with our staff within different lines of business.
  • A high level of organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • A proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines, driving for results.
  • Thought leadership and can innovate solutions quickly.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working closely with others and enjoy an atmosphere of cross-collaboration.
  • The ability to thrive in a fast paced and changing environment and be comfortable with ambiguity.
  • Superb customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams, and Outlook).
  • Bilingual (English/French) preferred but not required.
