Role OverviewTrane Technologies is seeking a
Vice President, Services & Commissioning to lead a critical and highly visible segment of our rapidly growing data center business. Reporting directly to the
President, Data Centers, this executive will hold full general management and operating responsibility for the
strategy, commercial execution, operational performance, and P&L management across the services lifecycle.
The successful candidate will oversee startup and commissioning, warranty execution, preventive and planned maintenance, parts and aftermarket support, and complex upgrades/retrofits. The core mandate is to build a scalable, profitable, and high-performing services business that fortifies customer relationships, ensures flawless execution, and expands recurring aftermarket revenue.
Crucially, this leader will operate at the intersection of our data center business and our broader execution network-partnering deeply with both the Data Center leadership team and Trane's commercial HVAC field service organization to align resources, develop strategic growth plays, and ensure world-class delivery.
Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic & Commercial Leadership- Strategic Collaboration: Partner closely with the President of Data Centers, the Data Center leadership team, and the broader commercial HVAC field service organization to collaboratively develop, refine, and execute the overall data center services strategy.
- Services Growth: Build and execute the services and aftermarket growth strategy for the North America region, identifying business gaps and market expansion opportunities.
- Oversight: Provide strategic direction oversight to the Services organization, instilling strong operational discipline and customer-centricity.
- Commercial Synergy: Partner across external and internal stakeholders to design and execute commercialization plays that improve service agreement conversion rates and accelerate recurring aftermarket revenue.
- Proposal Support: Partner with equipment teams to provide accurate commissioning, startup, and service budget inputs, ensuring competitive and executable project bids.
P&L & Business Leadership- P&L Ownership: Manage full P&L performance for the services business, encompassing revenue, gross margin, operating profitability, forecasting, and strategic resource allocation.
- Financial Discipline: Maintain strict oversight of project invoicing, cash flow management, vendor relations, and subcontractor strategies to maximize profitability.
- Operational Rigor: Improve service margins through intelligent resource planning, optimized vendor strategies, and consistency in field execution.
- Metrics & KPIs: Establish and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure service delivery quality, response times, and overall client satisfaction.
Operational & Team Leadership- Cross-Functional Alignment: Act as a bridge between the data center business unit and the regional HVAC field service organization to ensure optimized labor utilization, training, and execution quality.
- Talent Development: Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing service organization, fostering a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Escalation Support: Act as the senior executive sponsor for key client relationships, resolving complex operational escalations and ensuring Trane remains the partner of choice.
Qualifications & Experience- Industry Experience (Required): 10+ years of progressive general management or operational leadership experience in HVAC or industrial services.
- P&L Ownership: Proven track record of successfully managing and scaling a complex P&L within a service or aftermarket-focused business model.
- Mission-Critical Experience (Preferred): Experience managing service operations or commissioning in mission-critical applications (e.g., data centers, healthcare, high-tech manufacturing, or industrial process environments) is highly valued and considered an added benefit.
- Organizational Navigation: Demonstrated capability to navigate and collaborate across a matrixed organization, particularly partnering with large, established field service networks to drive unified execution.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related technical field; MBA or advanced degree is preferred.
