Disney Theatrical Group is currently seeking a Vice President, Producing & Development.

Responsibilities

The Vice President of Producing and Development reports to the Executive Producer and has the following responsibilities:

  • Deputy and key producing partner to EP. This leader will provide executive level leadership, driving creative direction, building and managing high performing creative teams, and driving problem solving. They will manage a stimulating and ever evolving portfolio of theatrical titles that are in various stages of development, beginning with the early formation of a team thru to the opening of an initial production, and finally the opening of the original first-class production. In addition, they will be a key partner in reimagining legacy titles, creating models that allow for creative excellence as well as consistent profitability. The successful candidate will understand intuitively what it means to work in partnership, leverage internal relationships and can create consensus and communicate effectively.

  • Leads both as a both a Producing executive, independently driving projects and managing high profile title page creatives, while also overseeing a group of high value independent team members, providing guidance, leadership and problem solving.

  • Capable of leading script and score development sessions, working to create consensus within the creative team.

  • Leads creative sessions and meetings with designers and directors, allowing for broad discussion but also contributing substantively to design esthetic and direction, and skilled at re directing when there is misalignment.

  • A key partner in developing large production budgets and is part of the team accountable to those budgets.

  • Key partner in the ongoing development of new and emerging forms of live entertainment across the division

  • Serve as the escalation point for complex issues affecting creative output, production timelines, and ultimately the ability for the team to move forward. Leads with calm, structured leadership in ambiguous and time-sensitive situations.

  • Maintain strong internal communication cadence to reduce surprises and escalate decisions

  • Lead and develop, together with the EP a strong team of Producers capable of leading and problem solving their own projects and teams.

  • Understands and embraces an accountability culture with clear ownership, measurable outcomes, and continuous improvement.

  • Work closely with both VP of Production as well as the VP of Talent and Content Development

  • Where appropriate, build relationships with other areas of TWDC.

  • Navigate extensive global travel primarily surrounding new development, often on site as sole producorial representative, overseeing progress in tech and rehearsals, has decision making authority with respect to all aspects of production, and is expert at both on site problem solving and unifying a large group towards a desired outcome.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10 or more years proven experience in a wide variety of creative idioms/mediums, especially musical theater, with a very strong producing background

  • Proven experience successfully leading creative teams and navigating complicated production challenges.

  • Proven ability to work in a professional creative environment, with particular focus on strong interpersonal and excellent communication skills.

  • Proven communication skills with ability to communicate and influence effectively with all levels in the organization.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Proven outstanding creative collaboration skills.

  • Demonstrated aptitude for driving work in a dynamic, fast-paced and challenging work environment.

  • High self-motivation to pursue and overcome opportunities/challenges.

  • Proven ability to work successfully outside of the USA, ability to be culturally supple and integrate TWDC standards in a way that is respectful and uplifts gifts and values of whatever country we are working in.

The hiring range for this position in New York, NY is $233,100 to $301,600 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
