Overview

Position Summary:

The VP, Online Experience & Growth is responsible for leading the technology strategy, engineering execution, and platform modernization efforts that power Mercury’s digital growth agenda. This role owns end-to-end software engineering initiatives across quote, bind, onboarding, and related digital experiences with a clear focus on improving funnel performance, reducing defects and leakage, increasing conversion, and enabling scalable, efficient growth.

In CA: Typical hiring range is $279,044 to $387,561

 

The expected base salary for this position will vary depending on a number of factors, including relevant experience, skills and location.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Lead end-to-end software engineering initiatives that improve digital funnel performance, reduce system errors, and increase conversion across quote, bind, and onboarding experiences.
  • Define and execute the engineering vision, roadmap, and operating model for Mercury’s online experience and growth platforms.
  • Design, build, and modernize cloud-based applications and platform components, including migrations, UI rebuilds, and integrated service experiences that support scalable business growth.
  • Develop and deploy application features that improve customer and partner experience, including workflow automation, real-time status visibility, secure transaction capabilities, and self-service tools.
  • Apply AI and predictive modeling techniques to optimize decisioning, personalize user journeys, identify leakage or performance issues, and drive measurable improvements in operational efficiency and customer outcomes.
  • Establish and monitor key engineering, customer, and business performance metrics; use data and experimentation to improve conversion, reliability, speed, and adoption.
  • Lead large-scale modernization and transformation efforts, including platform simplification, service integration, legacy remediation, and cloud enablement.
  • Partner across product, QA, UAT, analytics, operations, and business teams to deliver high-impact releases on schedule and translate business priorities into technical solutions.
  • Build and lead high-performing engineering organizations by hiring strong talent, developing leaders, setting clear expectations, and fostering accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive engineering excellence through strong architecture, secure development practices, observability, resiliency, automation, and disciplined release management.
  • Communicate technology strategy, priorities, risks, tradeoffs, and business impact to executive leadership and influence enterprise investment decisions.
  • Ensure systems within scope are secure, compliant, scalable, maintainable, and aligned with current and future business needs.

 

Qualifications

Education:

 Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Business Administration, or related field.

Experience:

Minimum:

  • 15+ years of software engineering experience, including 7+ years in senior engineering leadership roles with responsibility for multiple teams, platforms, and large-scale delivery.

Preferred:

  • Experience leading customer-facing digital platforms with accountability for conversion, funnel performance, service reliability, and growth outcomes.
  • Experience with cloud modernization, platform transformation, workflow automation, and AI/ML-enabled product capabilities.
  • Experience in P&C insurance, financial services, or other regulated environments.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proven ability to lead large, high-performing software engineering organizations and develop strong managers and next-level leaders.
  • Strong experience delivering modern web, API, backend, integration, and platform solutions across complex business and technology environments.
  • Deep expertise in building scalable, secure, resilient, and maintainable distributed systems using cloud-native architecture and modern engineering practices.
  • Strong understanding of digital funnel optimization, customer journey design, experimentation, analytics, and performance improvement.
  • Experience leveraging AI, predictive modeling, and data-driven insights to improve decisioning, personalization, automation, and business outcomes.
  • Demonstrated success leading modernization initiatives such as cloud migrations, UI rebuilds, platform consolidation, and service integration.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to connect engineering investments to growth, conversion, efficiency, and customer experience outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and executive presence, with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively across product, operations, QA, UAT, analytics, compliance, and business teams.
