Full Job Description
Role Summary:

Senior engineering leader who defines what gets built and how for the low-voltage / fiber-optic service line, setting design intent, standards, constructability, and turnover requirements for mission-critical data center builds.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Own the low voltage / Fiber design basis for data hall projects: topology selection, capacity models, pathway and space strategy, rack and cabinet standards, and migration roadmap for current and future densities.
  • Develop and govern data center cabling architecture, including TIA-942-aligned space planning (MDA, IDA, HDA, EDA), hot/cold aisle containment interfaces, ToR and EoR layouts, and spine-leaf connectivity strategy.
  • Define high-density Fiber design standards: MPO/MTP trunks and cassettes, base-8 and base-12 applications, polarity methods, Fiber count strategies, and 40/100/400G migration paths.
  • Direct design coordination with construction, network engineering, electrical, mechanical, and operations teams to ensure pathways, containment, grounding interfaces, and maintainability are constructible and supportable.
  • Lead drawing package reviews and technical submittals; resolve RFIs and field changes while protecting design intent, scalability, and standards compliance.
  • Establish engineering QA/QC criteria for designs, rack elevations, port-mapping logic, labeling conventions, and turnover documentation before release for construction.
  • Mentor CAD/BIM, project management, and field leadership teams; translate design standards into field-executable work packages, inspection points, and acceptance criteria.

Required Skills and Knowledge:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical / Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Active BICSI RCDD with deep data center design experience across mission-critical facilities and high-density structured cabling environments.
  • Expert knowledge of TIA-942 facility concepts (Rated 1-4), pathways and spaces, containment strategy, rack and cabinet planning, and structured cabling standards aligned to BICSI / ANSI-TIA.
  • Strong architectural understanding of ToR, EoR, and spine-leaf cabling models, including fiber distribution, patch-field strategy, and operational implications for scalability and MAC activity.
  • Hands-on design depth in MPO/MTP systems, Base-8 and Base-12 architectures, trunk and cassette selection, polarity control, and migration planning for 40/100/400G optics.
  • Ability to balance design rigor with constructability, cost, airflow, serviceability, and long-term operations in live or phased data center environments.
  • Strong technical leadership, documentation, and stakeholder communication for executive reviews, technical workshops, and design sign-off.

Certifications / Training:
  • Required: Active BICSI RCDD in good standing.
  • Preferred: BICSI 002 / data center design training and continuing education in TIA-942, TIA-568, TIA-569, TIA-606, and TIA-607 practices.

Mandatory Skills

Data Center Design Leader/BICSI RCDD/TIA-942 Expert/Structured Cabling & Fiber Architecture/ MPO/MTP & High-Density Fiber Design/Spine-Leaf, ToR/EoR Networks/Engineering Standards, QA/QC & Design Governance/Mission-Critical Infrastructure Leadership
