About the Role

The Vice President, Leadership Excellence is a senior executive responsible for advancing Proximity's mission to strengthen leadership across Ontario hospitals. Working closely with CEOs, Board Chairs, Chief Human Resources Officers, and other senior health system leaders, the Vice President identifies emerging leadership priorities, translates sector insights into impactful leadership initiatives, and ensures Proximity remains a trusted partner in developing exceptional healthcare leadership. The role provides strategic leadership to Proximity's Leadership Development portfolio and team, overseeing the design, delivery, and continuous evolution of programs, partnerships, and thought leadership that create value for Ontario hospital leaders.

Key Responsibilities:

Sector Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with hospital CEOs, Board Chairs, CHROs, and other senior healthcare leaders across Ontario
  • Identify emerging leadership challenges, opportunities, and sector trends through ongoing stakeholder engagement and environmental scanning
  • Represent Proximity at executive forums, sector partnerships, government tables, and other strategic engagements

Leadership Excellence Strategy:
  • Lead the development and execution of Proximity's leadership excellence strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and stakeholder needs
  • Translate stakeholder insights into innovative leadership initiatives, programs, tools, research, and thought leadership that strengthen leadership capacity across the sector
  • Identify opportunities to expand Proximity's impact by engaging new leadership audiences and addressing emerging leadership needs

Portfolio & Program Leadership:
  • Provide strategic oversight of Proximity's leadership development portfolio, ensuring initiatives are relevant, high-impact, and aligned with stakeholder priorities
  • Monitor risks, resource requirements, budgets, and stakeholder expectations across the leadership portfolio

Organizational Leadership:
  • Contribute as a member of the senior leadership team to organizational strategy, planning, budgeting, and decision-making
  • Lead, coach, and develop members of the Leadership Development team to foster excellence, accountability, and innovation
  • Champion a culture of integrity, curiosity, collaboration, inclusion, and continuous learning

  • Exceptional strategic thinking and systems-thinking skills, with the ability to identify patterns, trends, and opportunities across complex environments
  • Deep understanding of leadership development, executive leadership, organizational effectiveness, and leadership transitions
  • Strong facilitation, consultation, and influencing skills, with the ability to engage diverse perspectives and build alignment
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making skills in situations involving ambiguity, competing priorities, and complex stakeholder dynamics
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence as well as formal authority
  • Strong project and portfolio leadership skills, including oversight of multiple concurrent initiatives and resource allocation
  • Ability to foster innovation, continuous improvement, and learning within teams and across stakeholder groups


Qualifications and experience
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in executive leadership, leadership development, organizational development, executive coaching, talent strategy, healthcare leadership, or related fields
  • Master's degree in leadership, organizational development, education, business, health administration or related field preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to build credibility and influence with senior executives, boards, and complex stakeholder groups
  • Experience designing and leading leadership development strategies, programs, or initiatives with measurable organizational or sector impact
  • Experience operating in complex, multi-stakeholder environments
  • Healthcare sector experience strongly preferred


Compensation

Salary range commensurate with experience, plus we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including extended health and dental coverage, participation in the HOOPP defined benefit pension plan, and top-up benefits for maternity and parental leave.

Location & Work Environment

Proximity is a Toronto-based employer. We offer a flexible work environment, and employees are expected to attend the office as required to support business needs.
