Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Investment Teams to integrate accounting considerations into deal structures during underwriting.
  • Provide real-time feedback on complex accounting treatments and reporting outcomes for proposed transactions.
  • Direct preparation and review of technical accounting memoranda for material investment transactions.
  • Oversee compliance with GAAP and SEC standards in transaction-related reporting, including purchase price allocations and consolidations.
  • Act as primary contact for external auditors on transaction matters, effectively resolving technical issues.
  • Monitor and implement new accounting standards and regulatory requirements, advising leadership accordingly.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness in the preparation of SEC filings, including 10-Qs, 10-Ks, and earnings releases.

Full Job Description
SUMMARY

The Vice President, Accounting will provide executive-level oversight of the accounting and reporting for all investment transactions. This role partners closely with the Investment, Finance, and Legal teams to evaluate potential deal structures, guide decision-making with real-time technical accounting insights, and ensure accurate reporting under U.S. GAAP and SEC requirements. The VP will lead and mentor a high-performing team of accounting professionals, oversee technical accounting analyses, and serve as a key point of contact with senior leadership, independent auditors, and external stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:
• Strategic Partnership: Collaborate with Investment Teams to evaluate and influence deal structures during underwriting, ensuring accounting and reporting considerations are fully integrated into decision-making.
• Accounting Guidance: Provide authoritative, real-time feedback on complex accounting treatment and reporting outcomes for proposed transactions.
• Technical Accounting Oversight: Direct the preparation and review of technical accounting memoranda for all material investment transactions; present conclusions to executive leadership and external auditors.
• Regulatory Reporting: Oversee accounting for purchase price allocations, consolidation, and other transaction-related reporting, ensuring compliance with GAAP and SEC standards.
• Audit & Compliance: Serve as the primary contact for external auditors on transaction-related matters; resolve technical or complex conclusions effectively.
• Thought Leadership: Monitor, assess, and implement new accounting standards and emerging regulatory requirements, advising leadership on their impact to the business.
• Reporting & Disclosures: Oversee preparation and review of quarterly and annual SEC filings (10-Q, 10-K, earnings releases, and supplemental reporting), ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accountants and managers; foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and technical excellence.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Finance, Legal, Treasury, and Operations leadership to ensure alignment across transactions and downstream reporting.
• Process Optimization: Drive enhancements in transaction accounting processes, controls, and systems to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; Master's degree preferred.
• CPA required.
• Minimum 12-15 years of progressive accounting experience, including significant tenure in public accounting serving real estate clients (Big 4 strongly preferred).
• Deep technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements, with extensive experience in complex investment transactions.
• Proven ability to influence deal structuring with accounting and reporting considerations.
• Demonstrated success in leading and developing high-performing accounting teams.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including ability to engage with senior leadership and external stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with executive presence and strategic perspective.
