Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Visiting Researcher for the Child Health Institute of NJ at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Visiting Researcher will be responsible for molecular cloning, cell culture, confocal imaging, and data analysis. The Visiting Researcher will perform molecular, cellular, and imaging experiments. The Visiting Researcher will conduct independent experiments and prepare written and oral reports.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Designs, performs and analyzes experiments focused on mammalian cell culture including isolation and expansion of cells from bot murine and human tissues; performs cell survival assays; and transfection of mammalian cells.
  • Assists in maintaining laboratory instrumentation such as centrifuges, electrophoresis, and confocal microscopes.
  • Assists in the establishment of performance standards, the selection of research methodologies and instrumentation, and coordination of experimental approaches in support of CHI research.
  • Keeps up to date on the relevant literature in both peer-reviewed and preprint form and assist the PI in preparation of manuscripts and grant applications relevant to own experimental work.
  • Assists in the instruction and training of students (undergraduate/graduate) in techniques and procedures of the laboratory.
  • Keeps clear and detailed records of procedures and experiments in accordance with laboratory guidelines, maintain data in shared and readily accessible locations. Communicates and presents data to the PI and other lab members in a timely manner.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Recent graduate; bachelor's degree is required; master's degree in biology or biomedicine preferred. Majored in Medicine, Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or relevant biological sciences.
  • Consideration to interview will also be given to applicants who have not yet graduated with a Bachelor's degree. Documentation of the required Bachelor's degree must be provided prior to the commencement of employment.


Certifications/Licenses

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Training in basic experimental techniques, including histology, rodent brain dissection, stereotaxic surgeries for intracerebroventricular injections, and fluorescent microscopy.
  • Must have effective oral and written communication skills; and ability to understand and communicate in English to sufficiently perform the job duties.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Applicant should be highly motivated, have excellent organizational skills, and be able to work collaboratively and independently under the guidance of the PI.
  • Must be able to assist in daily lab management, including training and direct oversight of personnel and students.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience with biomedical research (either basic or clinical research).
  • Experience with animal behavioral techniques.
  • Candidate(s) with a history of prior publications.
  • Excellent writing skills with experience in writing grants, fellowships, manuscripts, or scientific reports strongly preferred.

  • Exposure: laboratory environment, moderate noise, and hazardous chemicals.

  • Walking, standing, sitting is required.

Work Environment:
  • Must pass employee health clearance, TB Test and required laboratory safety training.
  • Must follow all safety precautions in laboratory, as required.
