Job Description:

Are you interested in becoming an employee-owner with a leading national general contractor that will provide you with opportunities to Build More in your professional career? The Christman Company is looking for a VDC Manager in the greater southeast Michigan region who will be a key leader in virtual design and construction service capabilities for internal and external stakeholders. This individual will manage all building information modeling (BIM) and virtual design and construction (VDC) services for projects during the planning, construction, and close-out phases. This includes model management and development for 3D coordination, 4D scheduling, quantity take-off, and facility management deliverables.

What You Will Do:

As VDC Manager, your primary daily responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
  • As the point of contact on assigned projects, this role performs a variety of highly skilled duties such as: creating and managing BIM deliverables using methods to meet the project budget, identifying opportunities for VDC services to improve project delivery, and managing transitions from project planning, bidding, coordination, fabrication, installation, and close-out.
  • Develops project teams' use of BIM and implementation of BIM outside of coordination meetings (acts as a change agent).
  • Partners with marketing and business development teams on internal and external marketing; pursuits, business development events, social media, etc.
  • Delegates work to VDC team, Christman peers, and trade contractors.
  • Leads and mentors VDC coordinators and interns.
  • Learns and tests new technologies.
  • Follows and presents new technologies to the VDC team for discussion.
  • Identifies opportunities and utilizes full array of VDC resources.
  • Demonstrates proficiency using BIM for 4D scheduling.
  • Demonstrates proficiency leading use of BIM for 5D estimating with project planning peers.
  • Demonstrates proficiency using BIM for 6D facility management.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with virtual and augmented reality.
  • Demonstrates proficiency creating marketing graphics, renderings, and animations.
  • Works with design team during preconstruction to provide BIM-enabled constructability review.
  • Assists VDC group in updating and maintaining document standards and processes.

What You Will Bring to the Team:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Computer Drafting and Design, Construction Management, or related job field.
  • Five (5) years of experience in VDC or BIM management roles.
  • Relevant experience in the AEC market.
  • Proficient in core functions of Architecture Engineering and Construction (AEC), software such as Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, and Synchro.
  • Equivalent combination of the above education, training, and experience.

  • Collaborative skills towards effective partnership in a highly creative design process and a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while planning, scheduling, and organizing a professional schedule to complete actions within established deadlines.
  • Able to research, analyze, identify viable options, draw sound conclusions, present findings, and make thoughtful recommendations considering overall risk and short-term/long-term impact.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
