Full Job Description
Please note that this position is contingent upon the successful award of a contract currently under bid. Summary: The Viral Pathogenesis Lead Scientist oversees research into viral agents of concern, guiding studies on pathogenesis, vaccine development, and countermeasure evaluation using animal and in vitro models. Leads studies on viral pathogenesis, host-virus interaction, and therapeutic development in support of DoD biodefense initiatives. Responsibilities Essential Job Functions: - Lead and design experiments on viral replication and host response. - Develop and validate animal models under BSL-2/3/4 containment. - Mentor junior researchers and technicians. - Analyze data, present findings, and publish in peer-reviewed journals. - Coordinate with government and external collaborators. - The contractor will be expected to execute their assigned tasks, and to share their findings with other members of the project team. - The contractor is expected to write reports and publications, and present their findings in meetings. Qualifications Necessary Skills and Knowledge: - Expertise in viral molecular biology, immunology, and animal studies. - Familiarity with BSL-4 protocols and select agent handling. - Proficiency in assay development and interpretation. - Strong scientific writing and leadership skills. - Shall be knowledgeable in a relevant field of the life sciences and have desired experience working in a research laboratory. - The contractor shall have demonstrated their subject matter expertise in several areas, and their ability to conduct independent research through publication of several technical reports and/or peer-reviewed publications. - Demonstrates experience managing a research laboratory and a small cadre of technicians. Possesses good written and oral communication skills. Minimum Qualifications: - Master's degree in virology, microbiology, or related field. - Minimum 6+ years in virology or infectious disease research. - Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance eligibility, with no access to classified information, is required. - Enroll in the Personnel Reliability Program (PRP), if required. Preferred Qualifications: - ACTIVE SECRET is preferred - Ph.D. strongly preferred. Pay and Benefits The salary range for this position is $105,000 - $153,000 annually.
