The Vice-President, US Brand Marketing & Communications is accountable for setting the strategic direction and roadmap for brand marketing and communications across the US business, ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities, business growth objectives, and client experience goals.
The role is accountable for leading the development and execution of integrated brand, marketing, and communications strategies that strengthen CIBC's market presence in the US, support business priorities, and build awareness, engagement, and reputation with key stakeholders. This includes oversight of brand positioning, strategic marketing programs, internal and external communications, executive communications, and agency and partner relationships.
What You'll be DoingBrand Strategy and Market Positioning- Develop and lead the US brand strategy, ensuring alignment with enterprise brand direction and US business priorities.
- Define and evolve brand positioning, messaging, and value proposition to support awareness, consideration, and trust among target audiences.
- Ensure consistency and quality of brand application across campaigns, channels, client touchpoints, and communications.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen CIBC's reputation and presence in the US market through differentiated brand and storytelling strategies.
Integrated Marketing- Lead the development and execution of integrated marketing programs that support business growth, client acquisition, engagement, and retention.
- Oversee multi-channel marketing initiatives across all the channels such as digital, social, email, events, sponsorships, content, paid media.
- Partner with business leaders and functional teams to translate business priorities into effective marketing strategies and campaigns.
- Monitor marketing effectiveness and optimize plans based on performance, insights, and evolving business needs.
Corporate and Executive Communications- Lead strategic communications planning for the US business, including internal and external communications initiatives.
- Provide communications counsel to senior executives and support executive messaging, speaking opportunities, and leadership visibility.
- Ensure communications are aligned with enterprise priorities, business objectives, and reputational considerations.
- Oversee change communications, employee communications, and key business announcements for the US region.
Stakeholder Engagement and Reputation Management- Build strong partnerships with internal leaders, enterprise functions, and external partners to advance brand and communications priorities.
- Support the protection and enhancement of corporate reputation through proactive messaging and coordinated communications planning.
- Partner with relevant teams on issues management, media relations, and sensitive communications as required.
- Ensure alignment between marketing, communications, and broader stakeholder engagement strategies.
Agency and Partner Management- Lead external agency and vendor relationships, including strategic planning, creative development, execution oversight, and performance management.
- Ensure agency partners deliver high-quality work aligned to strategy, timelines, budgets, and brand standards.
- Support effective briefing, governance, and decision-making processes to improve speed, quality, and impact.
Measurement, Governance, and Operational Effectiveness- Establish performance measures and reporting to evaluate brand, marketing, and communications effectiveness.
- Use market research, audience insights, campaign metrics, and business results to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Oversee budgets, planning processes, and operational controls for the function.
- Ensure all activities comply with applicable policies, regulatory requirements, risk standards, and brand governance expectations.
People Leadership- Lead, develop, and inspire a high-performing team across brand marketing and communications.
- Create an inclusive, collaborative environment that supports innovation, accountability, and talent development.
- Build organizational capability and ensure the team is positioned to meet evolving business and stakeholder needs.
What We're Looking For - University degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field; advanced degree considered an asset.
- Extensive senior leadership experience in brand strategy, marketing, communications, or corporate affairs, preferably within a complex, matrixed organization.
- Strong knowledge of integrated marketing, brand management, executive communications, and stakeholder engagement.
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing strategic communications and marketing programs that drive measurable business outcomes.
- Strong business acumen and ability to align brand and communications strategies with enterprise and line-of-business priorities.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex ideas into clear, compelling messaging.
- Strong relationship management and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across senior leadership teams and cross-functional partners.
- Experience managing agency relationships, budgets, governance processes, and performance measurement.
- Strong leadership capability, including experience building and developing high-performing teams.
- Financial services experience is preferred, with knowledge of regulated environments and reputational risk considerations considered an asset.
At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $300,000 to $385,000 for the market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit's incentive compensation plan, which may also include a discretionary bonus component.
