The opportunity

Lightsource bp is seeking a Vice President of Procurement, Americas to lead our regional procurement organization and shape the commercial strategy supporting our utility-scale solar and battery energy storage system portfolio.

Reporting to the Global Head of Procurement, you will lead and develop a team of five directors while setting the strategic direction for sourcing, contracting, supplier management, procurement governance, and commercial risk mitigation across the Americas. You will align regional priorities with our global procurement strategy while ensuring our teams have the supplier relationships, commercial frameworks, and supply chain resilience needed to deliver a growing portfolio of renewable energy projects.

This is a highly visible leadership position requiring deep renewable energy procurement expertise, sound commercial judgment, and the ability to influence decisions across a complex, international organization. You will partner with senior leaders across Development, Engineering, Construction, Legal, Finance, Insurance, Operations, HSQE, and Power Marketing to improve project economics, support investment decisions, and manage risk throughout the project lifecycle.

The position may be based in our Austin, Denver, or San Francisco office, with a hybrid schedule that includes working in the office Tuesday through Thursday.

What you'll do

  • Lead, coach, and develop the Americas procurement organization, including a team of five directors.
  • Define and execute the regional procurement strategy in alignment with global priorities and business objectives.
  • Establish category strategies for BESS, solar PV, high-voltage equipment, and other major procurement categories.
  • Lead complex, high-value negotiations involving equipment, services, strategic partnerships, and multiyear framework agreements.
  • Develop sourcing strategies that optimize pricing, quality, delivery, contractual flexibility, and risk allocation.
  • Strengthen supplier relationships and establish long-term commercial partnerships that support portfolio growth.
  • Monitor geopolitical, trade, tariff, regulatory, logistics, and market developments, translating them into actionable procurement strategies.
  • Build supply chain resilience by identifying capacity constraints, logistics challenges, concentration risks, and single-source dependencies.
  • Partner with senior stakeholders to support project development, investment decisions, diligence, financial close, and delivery.
  • Establish effective procurement governance, commercial approval frameworks, and performance standards.
  • Ensure robust commercial risk management throughout supplier onboarding, contracting, and project execution.
  • Oversee procurement support for key project milestones, including bid strategy, supplier selection, contract execution, and delivery readiness.
  • Support investment tax credit and production tax credit qualification efforts through strategic procurement and safe harbor planning, where applicable.
  • Measure performance through KPIs, executive reporting, and category-level analysis.
  • Drive continuous improvement across procurement systems, processes, governance, and team capability.

Who we're looking for

You are an experienced procurement and commercial leader who can set strategy, build strong teams, and deliver results in a complex project environment. You understand the global renewable energy supply chain and can balance commercial opportunity with execution, regulatory, and contractual risk.

You will bring:

  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in procurement, sourcing, supply chain, or commercial leadership.
  • At least five years of experience leading teams, preferably at the director level or above.
  • Demonstrated success developing and executing procurement strategies for utility-scale energy, infrastructure, or similarly complex capital projects.
  • Significant utility-scale BESS and/or solar PV procurement experience.
  • Deep knowledge of renewable energy equipment and supplier markets, including batteries, integrators, modules, inverters, trackers, racking, and high-voltage equipment.
  • Experience leading major commercial negotiations and managing complex contracts, supplier relationships, and multiyear framework agreements.
  • Strong knowledge of global sourcing, logistics, tariffs, trade compliance, import and export requirements, and supply chain risk.
  • Financial acumen across pricing models, commodities, inflation, indexation, and forecasting.
  • A record of building, developing, and retaining high-performing teams.
  • Strong executive communication, stakeholder management, negotiation, and influencing skills.
  • Experience operating within an international, highly matrixed organization.
  • A bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, engineering, STEM, or a related field. Significant relevant experience may be considered in place of a degree.
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 10% to 20%.

An MBA or professional certification such as CPSM, CSCP, or CIPS is preferred. Spanish or Mandarin language skills and experience with data center power, hybrid energy solutions, or natural gas peaking generation would also be valuable.
