Purpose

Provides strategic direction, leadership and oversight for Executive and Global Banking and Markets compensation globally as well as Global Mobility, ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are supported in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Accountabilities

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge
  • Leads the strategy, design, development, governance, implementation and communication of compensation policies and programs for the Bank's VP+ population and all Global Banking and Markets employees, including the Bank's equity / deferred compensation programs
  • Oversees the governance of executive compensation programs globally, including support of the Bank's Compensation Review Committee and Human Capital and Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors processes; ensures compliance with remuneration-related regulatory requirements in multiple jurisdictions, including the creation/preparation of policies, procedures and regulatory reporting
  • Leads the strategy, design, development, implementation and communication of global mobility policy, including domestic and international relocation, to support and enhance the mobility of the Bank's key employees on a competitive basis both for the employee and for the Bank
  • Supports the Bank's culture, lived through ScotiaBond values and behaviours, by assessing culture risk against an established framework and set of metrics
  • Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank's risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank's risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct
  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team


Requirements

  • Minimum 10+ years of progressive experience in executive compensation including policy, design and governance, and related legal, securities and tax considerations
  • Experience advising and influencing senior executives, Board members, and governance committees on complex and sensitive compensation matters
  • Proven ability to provide strategic leadership in a complex, matrixed, and highly regulated global environment, balancing business strategy, risk, regulatory expectations, market competitiveness, and employee outcomes
  • Strong cross-functional leadership experience, with the ability to partner effectively across
  • Demonstrated people leadership experience, including building, coaching, developing, and retaining high-performing specialist teams, while fostering clarity, accountability, inclusion, and strong partnership
  • Executive presence and strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex compensation, governance, and regulatory matters into clear insights, recommendations, and decisions for senior audiences
  • Broad Human Resources experience beyond compensation is considered an asset
