Job Description:

TD Securities ("TDS") provides a wide range of capital market products and services to corporate, government and institutional clients through Global Transaction Banking ("GTB"), Corporate and Investment Banking ("CIB"), and Global Markets ("GM").  The firm works with clients around the world, focusing selectively and strategically on key global financial centers: Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Vancouver, New York, London, Singapore, and Tokyo.

GTB is comprised of three business lines: Trade & Working Capital ("TWC"), Corporate Cash Management ("CCM"), and Financial Institutions ("FI"), which are underpinned by dedicated support functions, including GTB Risk & Control, Product Management, Client Solutions, Data & Analytics, and Deposit Portfolio Management. TWC is made up of Global Core Trade Finance ("GCTF") and Structured Trade & Export Finance ("STEF"), which is comprised of Export & Agency ("EAF") Finance and Working Capital Solutions ("WCS").

Global Core Trade Finance (GCTF):

  • Clients principally include Fortune 500 and 100 companies with head offices located in North America and Europe, as well as key financial institutions.
  • Develops client centric solutions to remove or reduce payment risk or facilitate working capital by employing traditional trade finance products (Standby Letters of Credit / Guarantees, Import Letters of Credit, Export Letters of Credit, or Documentary Collections) associated with our clients' domestic business needs or foreign sales and purchases.
  • Supports strategic foreign banks and their clients' needs in North America & UK and acts as a trusted partner to mitigate risks in our markets.
  • Works closely with internal TD internal partners to provide "One-TD" solutions to our clients.

Job Description:

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, and Head of Global Core Trade Finance , the candidate will be responsible for providing GCTFFinance product coverage, structuring advice, and risk mitigation solutions to a portfolio of Canadian domiciled, multinational corporates and for driving product penetration within assigned market. Proactivity, flexibility, technical product expertise, and origination discipline are required to deliver value from prospecting and pitching through deal structuring and execution. As a key product partner, the VP interacts with a wide variety of internal stakeholders including industry heads and sector leads within CIB and partners across credit management, GM, and GTB. A collegial and team-oriented view of success is very important to allow the candidate to fit into the team. Having an entrepreneurial mindset is critical to manage through ambiguity and change associated with growing a business.

Requirements:

This role is suited to a detail-oriented individual with a client-centric focus, and a strong understanding of and demonstrated judgement related to credit structuring, execution, and risk. This candidate must be a subject matter expert in traditional Trade Finance (SBLCs/bank guarantees, export LCs, imports LCs, etc.) This candidate will have the ability to identify GCTF  business opportunities and deliver mandates effectively. The successful candidate will be a strong advocate and trusted advisor to their clients, while balancing the requirements of GTB and the firm.


Job Responsibilities

  • Deal Origination & Structuring
    • Responsible for end-to-end transaction lifecycle, including origination (due diligence and pitching), structuring, and execution of transactions and opportunities within assigned portfolio.
    • Lead origination efforts within assigned portfolio by identifying new opportunities to add new clients and increase our GCTF share of wallet.
    • Provides deal structuring expertise and prepares / oversees delivery of creative and timely term sheets and pitches.
    • Obtains credit concurrence and coordinates pricing approvals.
    • Arrange and engage in client calls and presentations.
    • Maintain an active pipeline of prospective new business.
    • Work closely with regional teams in the US, Toronto, London, Singapore, Montreal, and Vancouver.

  • Client Engagement & Relationship Management
    • Manage and deepen relationships with existing portfolio of clients through disciplined and dedicated coverage, serving as a trusted advisor and lead contact point for all GCTF matters.
    • Help clients navigate the organization; engage the relevant partners to assist in the resolution of client issues as necessary.

  • Deal Execution
    • Support and facilitate deal communication and client touchpoints (e.g., call reports) with the CIB relationship coverage team.
    • Assist with preparation of deal summaries and articulation of new deal opportunities.
    • Assist in the preparation of RAROC and pricing models.
    • Facilitate the negotiation of credit related documentation by engaging the relevant internal partners as appropriate, including GTB Credit Management, TDS Credit Management, and TD Legal. Apply a risk lens to every transaction and be able to formulate a position on the deal structure.
    • Steward transactions through successful credit approval to closing / funding.

  • Portfolio Management
    • Considers risk, internal controls, policies, compliance, and profitability as part of day-to-day accountabilities.
    • Coordinate with relevant credit and operational teams for ongoing maintenance of the GCTF portfolio.

  • Collaboration & Cross-Functional Impact
    • Works as a key member of the broader relationship coverage team within CIB, participating in joint calling / pitching efforts.
    • Understands the firm's coverage strategy, prospect universe, and risk appetite within assigned market / client segments.
    • Develops a calling and coverage plan in conjunction and with concurrence from the relevant CIB relationship managers.
    • Reviews, guides, and appropriately leverages work of Analysts and Associates to drive business results.
    • Identifies and socializes cross-selling initiatives and opportunities within the firm as appropriate; operate with a 'One-TD' mindset.
    • Demonstrate visible leadership among peers and presence across the TD Franchise.  
    • Represent TD’s unique and inclusive culture internally and externally.

  • Market Insight & Innovation
    • Contributes to growing / elevating the TD and GTB brand with a commitment to and presence in the industry and community.
    • Stay abreast of market trends, regulatory changes, and industry developments specific to the GCTF industry.
    • Contribute to the development of strategic initiatives and new product builds / onboarding as required.

Job Requirements

  • 10-15 years of relevant experience in trade finance, corporate / commercial lending within a major financial institution, including at least 5-7 years as a senior or lead contributor showcasing a successful track record in deal origination and execution.
  • Strong knowledge and practical expertise across  traditional trade finance products such as standby letters of credit, bank guarantees, and documentary letters of credit.
  • Experience structuring complex financial transactions, negotiating legal / loan documentation and sound understanding of credit products, with a specific focus on trade financing solutions.
  • Experience covering and developing relationships with large corporations and global financial institutions.
  • Ability to create and deliver professional product ideas and presentations.
  • Ability to drive resolution of client issues.
  • Ability to travel in North America.
  • MBA, CFA, or equivalent experience in financial services, accounting, or legal fields.
