The anticipated salary range for this role is between $184,454.00 and $201,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Objectives

  • Collect economic data, research, and analyze economic trends, as well as assess economic strategies for our client portfolios.
  • Compile reports and provide recommendations on investment strategies for our client portfolio teams.
  • Build economic models and generate economic forecasts in order to explain economic phenomena and forecast market trends.
  • Develop economic procedures and plans which will be used in forecasting trends and formulating policies.
  • Prepare, analyze, interpret, and maintain internal and external information related to economic policy, rates of return, depreciation, and investments.
  • Identify specific correlations of market movement with various economic risk factors, including market trends, industry concentrations, and other potential risk factors related to investment considerations.
  • Research the most up-to-date economics topics related to business growth, initiatives, and economic data and systems, as well as attending and participating in industry forums and conferences.
  • Prepare pitch books and presentation materials for marketing to prospective clients to expand our portfolio.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics or a related field plus 10 years of progressively responsible experience.
  • Required Skills: data collection; economic modelling and forecasting; economic and monetary policy; financial markets and risk analysis; credit monitoring and credit risk assessment; analysis of financial statements; economic analysis, economic research, credit risk management, underwriting, and lending; experience in diverse sectors including corporates and industrials, commercial real estate, energy, financial institutions, leasing, structured finance, project finance, middle market, or subscription financing.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
