Position SummaryThe Vice President, Chief Nursing Officer is responsible for developing and overseeing operational strategies for nursing and clinical products, programs and services in support of the overall business plan and strategic direction of the organization and ensuring consistence in the standard of practice across the clinical settings. Creates an environment in which collaboration is valued and excellence in clinical care is promoted and achieved.
Key Responsibilities1. Provides strategic input and leadership on decision making issues affecting the organization. Evaluates and advises on the impact of long range & financial planning, introduction of new programs, elimination of services, community perception, human resources and regulatory issues. Recommends the execution of appropriate measures to respond to projected trends and/or regulatory changes.
2. Plans, develops, implements, directs and evaluates the organization's nursing function. Participates in the development of the organization's nursing plans and programs.
3. Defines standards of care for nursing and patient care services which promote and facilitate a multidisciplinary approach to patient care and coordination of care, integrate evidence based practice and are consistent with the mission, vision and values of the organization. Assures that all nursing services are provided in compliance with all applicable standards and requirements of The Joint Commission and all other applicable regulatory bodies.
4. Provides direction in development of planned, systematic processes for monitoring, evaluating and improving the quality and appropriateness of nursing.
5. Provides direction in establishing the resource allocation priorities for the provision of nursing services, including the appropriate number and qualifications of staff members to provide care for patients. Responsible for collaborating with other departments and agencies regarding resources and services to improve patient care.
6. Works through the management team and medical leadership of the organization, serving as a resource to reduce costs, enhance revenues, achieve effective utilization and quality goals and objectives, and analyze and utilize information to develop and support management decisions.
7. Evaluation of the nursing division structure and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group. Assesses and tracks performance of direct reports and shares expectations for future performance. Coaches, trains, and develops direct reports, providing reinforcement and feedback.
Required Qualifications- Education: Current Registered Nurse Licensure in the State of Ohio BLS certification within 30 days of employment is required. Bachelor's degree in Nursing required. Master's in Nursing or health related field preferred.
- Experience: Requires five to seven years of progressive management experience and clinical experience in a hospital based nursing practice.
