Position: UxS Mechanical Integration Engineer

Type: Full-time

Location: Virginia Beach, VA

Travel: 10%

Position Summary: The Robotics Engineer supports the development, integration, testing, and fielding of advanced unmanned system capabilities for United States Special Operations Command. This position is responsible for designing, modeling, fabricating, integrating, and sustaining mechanical solutions that support flight operations, command and control systems, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities, and technology insertion initiatives. The engineer will work within an operationally focused engineering environment supporting rapid prototyping and mission-driven technology development efforts. The position directly contributes to the safe, suitable, and effective deployment of advanced capabilities to Special Operations Forces.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Integrate systems onto unmanned platforms.
  • Develop technical solutions supporting launch and recovery systems.
  • Design and integrate operational systems enabling flight, command and control, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions.
  • Design and fabricate concealment solutions, custom housings, and mounting systems for printed circuit boards and antenna systems.
  • Create engineering models, drawings, and prototypes using Computer-Aided Design tools.
  • Conduct material selection analyses considering strength, weight, durability, and thermal performance requirements.
  • Design structures capable of meeting vibration, environmental, and load-bearing requirements.
  • Perform fabrication using three-dimensional printing and Computer Numerical Control manufacturing processes.
  • Design and install antenna solutions optimized for signal performance and interference mitigation.
  • Develop engineering solutions addressing thermal management, vibration control, shock mitigation, and environmental durability.
  • Support developmental testing, fielding, operational demonstrations, and sustainment efforts.


Required Qualifications:
  • US Citizen
  • Valid U.S. driver's license
  • Must hold an active Secret Security Clearance with TS/SCI Eligibility
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication
  • Demonstrate strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrate self-motivation and critical thinking skills.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or related engineering or science discipline.
  • Minimum three (3) years of hands-on professional engineering experience.
  • Professional experience supporting Group 1 and/or Group 2 Unmanned Systems through design, integration, fabrication, testing, and sustainment activities. Group 3 experience may also be considered.
  • Extensive knowledge of aviation principles and unmanned systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical propulsion and combustible power systems.
  • Experience using Computer-Aided Design software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Rhino.
  • Experience designing and fabricating enclosure systems, custom mounting hardware, and mechanical/electrical housings.
  • Experience with Computer Numerical Control machining.
  • Experience with additive manufacturing and three-dimensional printing technologies including Fused Deposition Modeling, Selective Laser Sintering, and Stereolithography.
  • Experience with antenna integration and radio frequency interference mitigation.
  • Ability to perform structural, vibration, thermal, and shock analyses supporting unmanned systems integration.
  • Adhere to USSOCOM security requirements, cybersecurity requirements, and non-disclosure obligations.
  • Obtain and maintain installation access credentials and Department of Defense Common Access Card credentials, as required.
  • Sign required Non-Disclosure Agreements prior to performance.
  • Be capable of supporting surge operations, contingency activities, and mission-essential requirements when directed.

Physical Ability to:
  • Ability to work in a laboratory, fabrication, and engineering shop environment.
  • Ability to work around loud industrial equipment and power tools.
  • Ability to safely operate fabrication equipment and engineering support tools.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to support testing events and field activities as required.


Physical Demands and Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk, listen, and write. The employee frequently is required to use foot/ankle motions, hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
