Full Job Description
Description

We are seeking a Computational Mechanics Engineer to solve impactful problems by modeling key physical processes in complex systems. As a member of our team, you will contribute to exciting projects supporting the U.S. Department of War and other government agencies. Our team strives to develop, apply, and maintain deep expertise in multiscale modeling techniques that give insight across a broad range of length and time scales. You will work alongside analysts, designers, and fabricators who have a passion for bringing our models to physical systems that advance the state-of-the-art and have real-world impact.

As a Computational Mechanics Engineer, you will:
  • Build models to simulate a broad range of static and dynamic events that may include blast, impact, penetration, structural strength, fluid dynamics, fluid-structure interaction, and material model calibration.
  • Select from and leverage a range of advanced software tools including Abaqus, ABSTRAO, ALE3D, Cheetah, Ansys, CTH, COMSOL, Fluent, IMPETUS, LS-DYNA, NASTRAN, and Thermal Desktop to provide the best possible solution for a given problem.
  • Collaborate regularly with engineers, designers, fabricators, and scientists.
  • Propose future projects and initiatives with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Craft reports and give presentations to communicate results to team members and government partners.

We're looking for talented and versatile computational engineers who are excited to expand their analytical toolbox. If you have experience in any of the methods or tools above, and are motivated to learn even more, we want to talk to you.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you have...
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Materials Science, or equivalent with demonstrated application of knowledge.
  • 1+ years demonstrated experience in FEA or related computational modeling.
  • Interest in working on military projects that include energetics, munitions, blast, and impact.
  • Scientific/engineering programming experience, with the ability to work in at least one language (MATLAB, C/C++, Python, FORTRAN, etc.) using common algorithms in computational science and engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to multi-task on projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally to attend meetings or tests at other government and contractor sites.
  • Ability to work in closed area facilities.
  • Are able to obtain a Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you have...
  • A MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Materials Science, or equivalent with demonstrated application of knowledge.
  • Education or experience in the design, analysis, fabrication, and use of energetics and munitions.
  • Experience using high-performance computing or other cluster computing environments with job schedulers (Slurm, PBS, etc.)
  • Experience using hardware accelerators (e.g. GPUs) and familiarity with parallel programming techniques (MPI/OpenMP).
  • Experience applying artificial intelligence or machine learning methods to computational modeling and simulation workflows.
