What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a UI/UX designer who'll help to build out a new and exciting part of the business. We are looking for a scrappy, creative designer who loves to nerd out with creators and who can also translate their ideas and opinions to executive stakeholders at Makeship.

Your Key Responsibilities

UX & Product Design
  • Design intuitive, high-value experiences for creators and fans from discovery through production-ready execution
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups to communicate and validate ideas
  • Identify usability issues proactively and develop practical, user-centred solutions
  • Translate complex workflows into simple, intuitive, and conversion-driven experiences
  • Conduct user research and testing to validate assumptions and inform design decisions

UI Design & Design Systems
  • Design polished, visually compelling interfaces across web experiences
  • Make strong, intentional decisions around layout, typography, hierarchy, colour, and motion
  • Contribute to and maintain a cohesive design system across platform surfaces
  • Ensure UI quality is competitive with best-in-class e-commerce storefronts

Shopify Storefront Design & Implementation
  • Own storefront projects end-to-end, from concept and design through implementation and optimization
  • Customize Shopify themes and work directly within Shopify to execute medium-complexity storefront builds independently
  • Design solutions that are technically feasible and aligned with Shopify platform capabilities
  • Optimize storefront experiences for conversion, storytelling, usability, and visual impact
  • Continuously benchmark against leading e-commerce and creator-focused brands to elevate design quality

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with engineering, product, growth, and leadership teams to deliver high-quality solutions efficiently
  • Facilitate brainstorming, ideation, and problem-solving sessions with relevant stakeholders
  • Communicate design rationale effectively and build alignment across teams
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows, collaboration, and execution speed

Design Practice & Quality
  • Champion accessibility, usability, and customer-centric design principles
  • Stay informed on emerging design, e-commerce, and Shopify trends
  • Establish and maintain a high standard of design quality across all work
  • Support additional creative, marketing, and brand initiatives as needed

Additional
  • Interest and ability to pivot into adjacent design work on a regular basis - sales collateral, social media assets, ads.
  • Project manage other creatives (animators, illustrators) we contract out to on an as-needed basis
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of UX/UI experience with formal education in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Digital Media, or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience designing and shipping digital products, including visually compelling customer-facing web experiences
  • Hands-on experience working within Shopify, including theme customization, architecture, and storefront implementation
  • Strong foundation in UX principles, UI best practices, visual design fundamentals, and design systems
  • Familiarity with conversion-focused design and e-commerce best practices
  • Ability to operate independently, owning projects from concept through launch while managing multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally with product, engineering, and business stakeholders
  • Ability to translate ambiguous problems into clear, actionable design solutions and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences

Bonus

  • Shopify, UX, UI, or related professional certifications
  • Founder-level ownership mindset with a strong bias toward action
  • Pragmatic problem solver who prioritizes outcomes over perfection
  • Comfortable reporting into non-design leadership and influencing without authority

Benefits & Perks
