The Opportunity

The User Experience (UX) Designer supports the digital design, user experience, and analytics for the digital department. The successful candidate will work closely with internal stakeholders and clients to help define and refine the user experiences for websites, digital platforms, and content architectures based on digital analytics, while ensuring standards for web content, governance, and maintenance are met.

Key responsibilities:
  • Conducts research and reviews analytics to determine required outcomes, including conducting stakeholder interviews and user research to define and understand business needs.
  • Supports content strategy, information architecture and content auditing by performing audits of complex content ecosystems to provide data-driven recommendations on clear, structured and user-centric page design.
  • Provides information and visual design support to stakeholders in defining/refining their information architectures, functional specifications, controlled vocabularies and user experience.
  • Designs and implements site builds, templates and components directly within the web content management system (AEM).
  • Provides training and direction to staff and leadership for best optimization of computer applications.
Qualifications

  • Completion of a post-secondary degree program in Information Science, Human Computer Interaction (HCI), User Experience (UX) Design, Interaction Design or an equivalent combination of education, specialized UX certifications and relevant industry experience
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience required in User Interface (UI)/ User Experience (UX) with the following requirements:
    • Web/ Visual Design or any other related experience
    • Demonstrated knowledge in overseeing, designing and the application of web and graphic design, including user experience and analytics
    • Experience with our current digital ecosystem is considered a strong asset, including Adobe CS, Canva, Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), Figma, Siteimprove, Google Workspace, Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Google Tag Manager, MS Clarity, Ahrefs, monday.com, and Airtable
    • Demonstrated understanding of web architecture, responsive design, and foundational web technologies (HTML, CSS)
    • Must have a portfolio or website which demonstrates user-friendly interfaces, user journeys and strategic information architecture
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must have the capacity to write in plain language.
  • Well developed interpersonal skills, working in a highly collaborative style with stakeholders.
  • Strong critical thinking, organizational, time management and prioritization skills to effectively multitask on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Expertise in website taxonomy and metadata strategies in a CMS environment.
  • Strong understanding of information architecture, user experience and excellent computer skills.
  • Strong time management skills and flexibility to effectively prioritize, multitask and ensure work completion according to deadlines.
  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of metrics (funnels, conversions) as this ties into navigation paths.
  • Commitment and working knowledge to support University's principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
