Description:

Your opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager, User Experience & Process Design, you will join a collaborative and forward-thinking UX team focused on improving the University's core administrative and student systems. Your work will directly contribute to the design and evolution of large-scale enterprise applications that support students, faculty, and staff across the University of Toronto.

In this role, you will shape the user experience across complex systems by translating business and user needs into clear design direction and interaction flows. You will work in cross-functional Agile teams alongside developers, business analysts, and stakeholders, contributing across the full product lifecycle, from discovery to delivery. You will begin by supporting the Course Information System (CIS), with opportunities to contribute to other high-priority initiatives across the portfolio as your work progresses.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Analyze and document client and business requirements through a user-centered lens.
  • Plan and conduct user research activities, including interviews, surveys, and workshops
  • Synthesize research using personas, journey maps, and process maps to define user needs and inform requirements
  • Analyze user feedback and behavioural data to identify insights, patterns, and pain points
  • Design wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes to communicate design concepts and solutions
  • Conduct usability testing to validate and refine design decisions
  • Iterate on designs based on technical constraints and evolving requirements
  • Conduct accessibility testing to ensure compliance with accessibility standards and support inclusive design


Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years of recent and related experience in the design of interactive web based enterprise applications, focused on user centered design as part of a User Experience design team.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in conducting user research activities, usability testing sessions, and documenting heuristic evaluations of web sites and applications.
  • Strong experience with current design practices (wireframes, prototypes, user stories, usability testing, accessibility, and responsive design) and tools (Figma, Optimal Workshop, Voiceover, NVDA, JAWS, Axe).
  • Experience applying analytical, creative, and technical abilities within a software development environment, including managing stakeholder expectations and requirements within development limitations.
  • Excellent teamwork and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to express design requirements in language a developer will understand.
  • Skilled in user centered design methodologies, including translating user research findings into functional requirements and developing functional specifications.
  • Familiarity with current business process mapping tools (e.g. Visio, Lucidchart).


Assets (Nonessential):

  • Knowledge of student systems and higher education business processes
  • Experience with Azure DevOps or other task management tools.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint.
  • Understanding of Agile development practices.
  • Project coordination experience, including coordinating timelines and deliverables.
